Girls CAN is a transformative program dedicated to breaking down barriers for girls, especially BIPOC girls, in basketball! 🌟 We offer valuable growth opportunities, 💪 empowering participants to build self-esteem, embrace a healthy lifestyle, and pursue their passion for basketball 🏀. We’re cultivating strong leaders and inspiring educated young people who will make a difference in their communities! 🌍✨

🏀 Girl CAN will be hosting a basketball clinic for girls grades 4-8.

📅 Date: Sat Nov 16
📍 Location: Innisdale SS (95 Little Ave, Barrie)
🕒 Time: 1:30-4:30pm
💲 Cost: Instead of a registration fee, we will be collecting non-perishable food items and gently used or new winter clothing in support of the Busby Centre .

Marc Henderson

Housing Focused Street Outreach Worker and Advocate

Marc was born on January 20th, 1992, in St. Catharines, Ontario. He spent nearly a decade facing the challenges of addiction, living on and off the streets, and travelling across Canada in search of himself. His journey took him from coast to coast through various situations, including living out of his vehicle. In March 2023, Marc found sobriety and transformed his life. Since then, he has dedicated himself to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

Currently based in London, Ontario, Marc works as a Housing-Focused Street Outreach Worker, actively engaging with those living rough. He draws upon his lived experience to advocate for fundamental human rights and to help raise awareness of the challenges faced by people struggling with addiction, mental health issues, and homelessness.

His passion extends beyond his profession, as he supports multiple community organizations in his spare time and encourages others to pursue sobriety.

Marc believes in the power of change and the potential for individuals to build better lives when given the right tools and opportunities. In his personal life, he finds solace in nature, enjoys camping, and cherishes connecting with animals, appreciating the beauty of the world around him.

As an advocate, Marc continues to work toward bridging the gaps within social services, striving for a society that supports and empowers its most vulnerable members.

100 lbs of potatoes and 3 bushels of carrots from Harris Farms ( they gave us an amazing discount )
Turkeys from Mike Rudkins and Krista Rudkins and thank you also for the bananas I was able to bake muffins and banana bread for the centre today !

Today, we are overflowing with gratitude for our amazing community.

We served over 150 dinners, and the smiles, laughter, and even jokes from everyone truly filled our hearts.

Hearing people say we made them happy is the greatest gift!

We were blessed to have so many incredible volunteers today – not only did they help us serve meals, but they also pitched in to tackle our backlog of laundry and donations. 🙌✨ It’s moments like these that remind us how strong and supportive our community is. Together, we’re making a difference.
