Brent Amey of Brent Amey Mortgages has provided us with an update from the Bank of Canada.
Well, itโs no surprise that the Bank of Canada lowered interest rates today. It was only 0.25%, as the market expected, but we sure could have used 0.50%. This is lowering the prime rate back to where it was in June of 2023. At least we are moving in the right direction, and I expect more rate cuts to come. Just a reminder that these rate cuts only affect the variable rate mortgages and not the fixed rates. The best rate we have seen lately on the fixed side is 5.04% on a 4-year term.
Two thirds of Canadians say they desperately need for interest rates to go down, as more than half indicate they are concerned rates may not fall quickly enough to provide financial relief they require. 30% of Canadians say they cannot cover their bills and debt payments.
