Our Story
I absolutely love curling! I watched my husband play for years and then I finally tried it and fell in love instantly. But, I almost quit after my very first game! Why? Because I fell on the ice and ended up with a head injury that turned out to be a serious concussion. I had all the right equipment – new curling shoes, a stabilizer, a broom… I took the two-day training course – but nothing prepared me for, nor protected me from, hitting my head on the ice.
As the night progressed my condition worsened and I ended up spending the night in the hospital getting x-rays and CT scans – thankfully the results were clear – no internal bleeding, no brain damage, no fractures. However, I had to stay off the ice for two whole weeks!! In fact, I had to stay in the house resting for two weeks – not that I was capable of doing much else with the way my head ached. It was that moment when the idea of the Ice Halo Protective Headband was born.
Over the past ten years, Ice Halo, which has now rebranded as Aura-Halo, has expanded its product line to five exciting, different styles, all independently tested and proven to reduce the impact force of a fall significantly. The products can fit sizes from X-Small to X-Large, with a few even XX-Large varieties. We have a wide selection of colours and styles to make it possible for people to wear protective headgear they will enjoy being seen wearing!
