Continuing our discussion on Autumn Preparations, we talked about furnaces last week. This week we talk more about heating your home!
1. Space Heaters - Always keep heaters at least three feet away from clothing, bedding, towels, curtains and furniture. Shut off if you leave the house and keep away from children and pets. Open the door or crack a window to allow air to circulate.
2. Fireplace - ensure your fireplace is debris-free, properly ventilated, and that the liner, mortar and bricks are in good condition. Don't try to fix yourself. Never leave the fire unattended and make sure it's completely out before leaving the house.

As summer fades away and the leaves turn colors, homeowners are preparing their houses for a cozy fall. For the next couple weeks we will discuss some handy tips for keeping your castle (and anyone inside it) safe this autumn.
1. Test and Replace Safety Equipment (check batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors twice a year and replace every 10 years)
2. Be Careful when heating home - furnace inspections are recommended every year. If unable to, inspect yourself for rust spots, ensure connections are firm in place and there's nothing flammable nearby.
