Also, these spaces are available to the clients I had to short notice cancel when I hit the deer Wednesday morning. Most of these spaces will not be bookable on the app - please message me which one works for you. It's one of those weeks I guess. I unfortunately hit a deer on the way in to work this morning. It wasn't bad, but my car is not drivable. The hood is pushed against the radiator and my front bumper is dented. I am still waiting for a tow truck.

An active client is someone I have previously treated at least 3 times in the previous 12 months. A client becomes inactive if I haven't treated them in more than 12 months.

Emergency appointments (at my discretion) are an extra $50 in addition to my regular price. This includes appointment requests before or after my regular hours, appointments that put me over my workload limit of 5 hours, or appointment requests on my days off

Day 1 of training is complete. Mostly just a review on joint end ranges and assessments.

Day 2 is spinal and pelvis low velocity adjustments which is all new to me :)

Also, I did that thing yesterday. Sadly I'd lost almost half my hair in the last month so the braid is pretty thin (as well as my remaining hair). I haven't had a chance to measure how long it is yet 😀

05/20/2024

As alluded to earlier this month, I am unfortunately dealing with a minor medical issue. I have been having gall bladder attacks since April 12th. The first confirmed attack lasted 16 days. This issue runs on my mother's side of the family. I am awaiting an appointment with a specialist and will likely need surgery in the near future to remove my gall bladder.

What this means:

#1 I am loosing weight - either due to malabsorption of nutrients or because I am following a semi-strict diet and as a consequence I am loosing my hair.

#2 my plans to fundraise and then donate my hair at haying in the 30's this summer are no longer an option... I will likely be cutting my hair off by the end of this month before it becomes too thin to donate. This has been a goal of mine for over 5 years and I am a little devastated to miss my last opportunity to do this

#3 as gall attacks are unpredictable and typically strike at night I am going to be tired at times

#4 once surgery is confirmed and booked I will need 2 - 4 weeks of recovery and lighter work load post op. Sadly, at this time I have no idea if I am looking at weeks, or months before surgery

05/08/2024

For June my Tuesday nights will be shifted up by 15 minutes. I have joined a bowling league. We start at 7pm so I need to be done work by 6:15 :)

Waslaski training update:

I do apologize that I am delayed by 3 weeks in getting this started. I was dealing with a minor medical concern that may require minor surgery in the future.

Results from the survey on areas of concern for my clients:

#1 Shoulder - 21 votes
#2 Neck - 20 votes
#3 Hips - 15 votes
#4 Knee - 8 votes
#5 Ankle/foot - 6 votes
#6 Scars - 5 votes
#7 Other - Jaw (not it's own area, very closely related to neck health) - 4 votes
#8 Wrist/elbow - 1 vote
#9 Other (not specified) - 3 votes

I am looking for 3 clients to practice shoulder integrated manual therapy techniques on. The clients must have limitation in range of motion or strong shoulder pain. The successful clients will receive their first one hour session for half price as I will be referencing instructional material during the session.

Clients signed up
#1 - And Sc
#2 - Nic Wo
#3 - Nic Ka

Omgerd... they came early!

Photos from Knot To Knead Massage Therapy's post 04/12/2024

So freaking excited... my new Dolphin Neurostim is being shipped out today! Expected delivery is April 18th.

This cool little tool can:
- painlessly stimulate the vagus nerve to promote relaxation and reduce pain signaling in 15 minutes
- promote energy production around new and old scar tissue to speed healing and improve lymphatic flow
- detect and treat acupressure points to work Chinese meridian lines similar to acupuncture

I debated on buying this tool for over 5 years but finally made the purchase after seeing, and feeling it in action last week. It was only minimally uncomfortable around my scars and the results were 8 days of pain relief after 10 minutes of treatment on my thoracic scarring which is almost 40 years old! After 5 minutes on my scared and curved finger I have been able to mobilize the joint for the first time since 2016! For the first time in 8 years I am hopeful I can straighten this finger after a few more rounds of treatment.

Out of 15 people who had scar work done during the training, I was the only one who could feel the microcurrent working, so most people won't even know it's there!

The photos attached are for reference. This is what my finger looks like after one treatment. I will post updates as I treat it.

I know I just finished training and have started studying for integrated manual therapy, but I love learning so there are a few more courses coming up in the near future!

TAC - Trauma, Autonomic Nervous System, and Concussion. This is a 3 month long on-line course I will be starting asap

Rapid: advanced knee

3 day Annual General Meeting for NHPC members in Edmonton June 3- June 5th. I will be taking:
Integrated orthopedic assessment of the neck, shoulder, low back, and knees with Ben Benjamin and joint mobilization of the entire spine and pelvis.

Waslaski Training 04/09/2024

Now that I am home and have had a day to process, wow, that was a lot of information!

We covered nearly every ligament, bone, and muscle in the body (except thoracic and lumbar spine). We reviewed assessment and special tests. We reviewed "normal" joint range of motion and tissue end feels.

I'm not going to lie. It was overwhelming!

I am going to be breaking down the training in to body sections. I would like to master the assessment, special tests, muscle tests, treatment, and reassement of each area before combining those areas into one full treatment.

I would love if my clients could answer this 1 question anonymous survey to tell me which area they need the most.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/528Y6TQ

Did I mention the new stuff is ideally done as gently and pain free as possible? A lot of the techniques overlap with manual osteopathy. Exciting right?

Now for the important part. In 1 week whichever area has the most votes is the area I will start with. I will need 3 clients for each area to practice on. Each person will get a 30 - 45 min session at half cost as I will be stopping and starting treatment as I reference books and videos to make sure I am doing the techniques 100% correct!

Every 2 - 3 weeks I'll be making a post here looking for my 3 people to practice the specific area on. This will be a first come first served basis. Please only nominate yourself for an area if you genuinely need treatment in that area!

Day 4: finished up shoulders and moved on to neck (think numbness, and tingling of upper extremities, migraines and headaches)!

Photos from Knot To Knead Massage Therapy's post 04/05/2024

Day 3: Knees and Shoulders!

04/04/2024

Day 2:

Today we covered extensive foot (think fallen arches, tarsal tunnel, and plantar fascitis) and started on knee issues.

Super cool stuff 😀

And all of the techniques are done to a discomfort barrier at the most. It's a big switch from my previous training!

Red Deer: Day 1 James Waslaski intensive 5-day seminar

Our instructor has a fantastic passion for knowledge and learning. I respect his teaching so much more because he is actually current, if not at the forefront, of changes in how we view the body, and how best to correct imbalances effectively (with little discomfort).

Today we learned how to level the sacrum, as a torsion or upslip at the hip can render most core area treatment ineffective within minutes of session end. We learned how to mobilize and rehydrate the hip capsule. We also started re-learning about feet. I've known for a long time that feet are our foundation, and you can't effectively build on a crooked foundation! Super excited for the next 4 days.

I may also be purchasing 2 new toys for the clinic - a fascia buddy, and a set of dolphin neurostims! I've been on the fence about dolphins for 4 or 5 years now, but after seeing them in action today I definitely need them asap 😀

Finally made it down to the ocean. Afraid I didn't have the stamina to explore a lot.

I have a new appreciation for how quickly muscle mass loss occurs.

Straight up, Hawaii is not going well. I have missed my entire first course due to simultaneously contracting bacterial pneumonia, strep throat and the flu. I have been laid up or at the hospital since I got here. :(

I hope to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow but will likely not see any of the island.

This is the price I pay for not getting sick since August of 2020

George is rarely walking with a limp these days. It's taken 3 weeks but we are making great progress. Fortunately I've learned to make him my last client of the day because he likes to nap post treatment!

(P.s. someone send wine - happy Friday)

New training upcoming!

April 3rd - April 7th

5 DAY INTENSIVE SEMINAR WITH EDUCATOR JAMES WASLASKI

Advanced and extensive hands-on training for the entire body, addressing sports massage, sports medicine and orthopedic massage. They cover advanced information including releasing the superficial fascial front line, posturology, and the ability to tie the entire body together to sort out complicated pain patterns. You will learn sports injury prevention, and how to align your work with sports medicine specialists. All conditions listed for the upper and lower body will be covered in more detail, with more emphasis on structural integration and the ability to see how one area of the body can cause compensation patterns throughout the body. We will look in greater detail at things like upper cross syndrome, lower cross syndrome, ascending pain patterns, descending pain patterns, biomechanics, and myoskeletal alignment.

Cutest massage client ever!

This little guy is George. He is approximately 4 months old. We suspect he fell out of a vehicle and injured his front left paw. Every 3 days I get to spend 5 minutes doing RapidNFR on him. He is slowly walking better!

I love my job ❤️

I hope everyone has a fantastic and rewarding 2024.

I hope everyone enjoys some downtime and peace today. 😀

I took some time to sit down and re-evaluate my price structures as well as service durations. As previously indicated the following prices will apply as of January 1st. I never take the decision to raise my rates lightly, however I do need to be competitive with therapists in our area. I will not raise my rates for at least 1 year and I will always give a minimum 60 days notice prior to any increase.
