If someone told me when I was younger that I would own a business and do lashes/permanent makeup for a living I would have a hard time believing them.

Growing up in an immigrant household, school was always a top priority. “Go to school and get a 9-5 job” seemed to be the only way to make a living. At the time I thought that was my only option.

I started thinking what industry I would want to get into yet nothing seemed to excite or intrigue me.

Little did I know this is where I would be today and now I can say this is just the beginning.

Some people call it “seizing an opportunity,” others call it “taking a risk,” but what I do know is that if I didn’t take that first step in April 2017 and convinced my mom into funding my first lash training my life would be looking very different right now.

Life is short, don’t settle for less because you owe it to yourself to at least try.

Megan Koziol, master lash artist and microblading specialist.

I was inspired to take a lash training in 2017 after I had lash extensions applied for the first time for a dance trip to Ecuador and El Salvador. Lash extensions made getting stage ready easier, faster and I did not have to worry about strip lashes falling off mid performance. I realized the power and convenience in having my lashes done and how they could make other women feel. When you look good, you can not help but feel good too.

I made a commitment from the start to provide quality work and make lash health my number one priority. With five years of experience in this industry, working with all eye shapes and different lash textures I have mastered lash extensions. I pride myself on my attention to detail, patience and dedication in creating beautiful customized sets for all my clients.

As for my permanent makeup journey, I decided to take a course when travelling to Vietnam. This is where I learned microblading and how to create stunning stroke patterns that blend seamlessly with the natural brow hair. I fell in love with microblading as it requires the same attention to detail as lash extensions.

My drive for perfectionism allows me to create the required symmetrical shapes that compliment client’s features. Some of my favourite parts about the brow tattooing process is mapping, designing stroke patterns and understanding how pigments heal on different skin tones. I aim to enhance one’s natural beauty whether that is through lash extensions or permanent makeup and to ensure the results are always up to my standards.

This rebrand has been in the works for many months. I couldn’t even tell you how many times I went through artist’s block. I had this urge to grow and change my business into something that represents me on a more personal level and yet I couldn’t come up with anything. My mom and sister can attest to that. We would try to come up with ideas and brainstorm but nothing would stick. Everyone kept saying, the name will come eventually and we shouldn’t be thinking so hard.

So months have passed, I tried doing research and finding words that might spark an idea, yet nothing. Then one day, without planning, I was sitting around the table with my mom and sister playing around with my name and it happened, MegiKO came to life.
I just said it out loud without even thinking and we loved it!

Now I finally feel so happy that I get to share this with you all! I am so excited to keep growing, building my brand and sharing all these moments with you.

Microblading is a natural brow tattoo that mimics the look of real brow hair. A manual blade is used to “carve” strokes into the skin to create a beautiful shape and fuller looking brows.

Procedure time: 3 hours
Required sessions: 2 (initial and 4-6 week touch up)
Pain level: none-mild (numbing is used prior and throughout the procedure, I use Zensa for primary numbing and Ultra Duration for secondary numbing)
Longevity: 1-2 years (until another touch up is required, must be at least 50% faded)
Healing time: 14 days

The hybrid set - a mix between classic lashes and volume fans. One row of volumes fans is placed along both eyes and the rest is filled with classic lashes.

Did you know on average we have 3 layers of lashes and around 100-200 lashes per eye? 🤯 Above is a close up picture of volume lash extensions. This client has many layers and lashes, each adult natural lash is isolated. Then a volume fan is attached close to the root of the natural lash but never touching the skin.
