Catalytic converter thefts are a problem nationwide. The Shakopee Police Department is excited to announce a new partnership with the Minnesota Department of Commerce and the Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention Pilot Program! The intent of the program is to deter the theft of catalytic converters by marking them with unique identification numbers that permanently mark the catalytic converter. Through the pilot project the vehicles authorized to receive the anti-theft kits are:
Chevrolet Express
Ford Econoline
Ford F250
Honda Accord
Honda CRV
Honda Element
Honda Odyssey
Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai Tucson
Kia Sportage
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Mitsubishi Lancer
Mitsubishi Outlander
Toyota Prius
Toyota Tundra

Don’t see your vehicle on the list? No worries! The Shakopee Crime Prevention Inc purchased additional kits from Vehicle Road Safety Solutions which can be secured to any vehicle.
All kits are free and available to Shakopee residents at the front desk of the Shakopee Police Department (Monday – Friday 08:00-04:30). When picking up your kit please specify if you need one from the pilot program or not.
Kits are limited so pick one up right away!

Before you stop by to pick up a kit:

1. Obtain your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and license plate number.
2. Scan the QR code on this post or at the PD Lobby with your smart phone, which will take you to the registration process. Fill out as much as you can if possible before you visit the PD. Upon arrival, you will receive the Unique Code to complete registration.
3. If you don’t have a smart phone, registration can be completed online or on paper upon arrival.
4. Once registration is complete, you will be given your sticker containing a unique code, and etching compound to apply at home or take to a mechanic to apply.
