Today is our Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Ta**us!
What wonky energy! Eclipses are such wild cards; 180 turn arounds and perspective shifts are expected during this time. Ta**us teaches us to nurture our senses. Taste - eat your favourite foods or try some delicious new ones. Smell - light your favourite candles/incense or buy yourself your favourite flowers and take a whiff. Hearing - Listen to your favourite songs. Sight - Give yourself a makeover and watch your best self unfold before your eyes. Touch - A new body lotion, a massage, a hug from a chosen person; the options are endless. Eclipses can be an emotionally jarring time and Ta**us is helping comfort us by giving permission for us to indulge in things that feel safe and 'like home'. Then we can start to get to work.

Today's is Sweet Grass!
Hair of our Mother, Hair of Mother Earth, Vanilla Grass, Seneca Grass, Buffalo Grass, Holy Grass, Sipátsimo (Siksika), and Wiingaashk (Anishinaabemowin).
*Pictured is the braid I purchased from an indigenous seller at the Truth and Reconciliation Pow Wow held in Forest Lawn this past September. It traveled all the way from Manitoba to be with me and I am so very thankful.
Sweetgrass is one of the 4 most potent medicines in all indigenous culture across Turtle Island. It is aligned with the north direction, the season of winter, and the element of earth in the Ojibwe medicine wheel.
**It is associated with other elements and directions in other nations, but I am sharing my culture's knowledge and practices as I know them.
Sweetgrass medicine is blessing, cleansing, purification, protection, attracting positivity, healing, calm, kindness, and peace.
It is used in smudging, sacred rituals, sweat lodge, healing/talking circles, Sundance, and peace pipe ceremony.
The three strands of the sweetgrass braid are woven together to represent body, mind, and soul, as well as the concepts of love, kindness, and honesty, and love, harmony, and peace.
Using Sweetgrass in Your Magical Practice
If you are not indigenous, you should only be using sweetgrass medicine in your private, not public, practice.
What if I was given a sweetgrass braid?
This is a beautiful thing and a wonderful gift! You may wear your sweetgrass braid like a necklace for personal blessings during solo ceremonies or hang it in your home above your doorway/magical space to invite blessings into your environment. You can also burn sweetgrass as sacred incense (it has a lovely earthy vanilla aroma).
How to be a magical ally:
1. Buy Indigenous!
Sweetgrass is a medicine loved by many people the world over. To aquire it, buy from indigenous sellers who have harvested the plant in good ways that honor the earth from where it came. An alternative is to forage for sweetgrass with an indigenous guide who can show you how to harvest it in the proper manner. This action is of great significance, as most indigenous tribes believe medicine should be given, not purchased, so thank your guide in kind.
2. Appreciate Don't Appropriate
DO NOT buy sweetgrass that is not indigenous sold if you call North America home. Mic drop.
3. Hear ye, hear ye!
Spread the word! Help protect indigenous culture by sharing this knowledge. Educate those around you and echo indigenous voices.
Fun Fact: In parts of Europe, this plant is used to flavor vodka.
New Moon, Who Dis?
It's New Moon in Scorpio baby!
Scorpio vibes are spooky and mysterious. Black, crimson, burgundy etc... Get a little dark with that fashion! The scorpion look is dark and sexy. But don't get it twisted; this sign is business in the front and business in the back. The vibe is boss b*tch intensity and I'm here for it 🌑♏🦂
Every third Wednesday of October is International Pronoun Day 💙 Simply put, pronouns are words that we use to replace people's names in sentences when we're talking about them in the third person. There are lots of different sets of pronouns like they/them, she/her, and ze/hir. Many people also use mixed sets of pronouns like they/he or she/they.
If you don't know someone's pronouns, don't assume — ask! And if someone you know has changed their pronouns, practice using the new ones.
Mistakes will happen along the way. If you mess up someone's pronouns, there's a simple process for that:
1a. If you notice your mistake and self-correct it: apologize, but keep it brief and don't centre yourself. This can make the person who was misgendered feel obligated to comfort you. It's awkward.
1b. If someone else notices and corrects you: say thank you! Especially if the person who corrected you is the person who was misgendered.
2. Correct: Finish your sentence using the correct pronouns.
3. Move on.
Using someone's correct pronouns at home, in the workplace, out and about, or wherever you find yourself, whether or not they're in the room, is a sign of respect for that person.
[Image Description: Several speech bubbles on a grey background with Calgary Pride logo in top left corner. The speech bubbles have different pronoun sets in them in colourful fonts. Large text at the top middle reads "International Pronoun Day." Middle speech bubble reads "Don't just assume them! But when you know them, use them."]

Oh,
Thanksgiving Day.
This day is always an awkward one for me. I am of mixed origin: Indigenous (Ojicree), Irish, English, and Norwegian. Obviously, there's some settler in there. So I feel torn on this day.
I agree with the modern notion that Thanksgiving should be a day of gratitude; for gathering with loved ones and showing thanks for all that we 'have'. When feeling lack and hardship, this day can bring us into a space of appreciation and abundance.
However,
It MUST be recognized that this day is built on the celebration of genocide. There was no happy friendship between the indigenous and the first pilgrims; these new settlers decimated entire tribes of native people, labeling them 'savages'.
The most famous of these pilgrims were the Puritans. Puritans were religious zealots who fled England, taking their bigoted views with them to the 'new' world. Their legacy of murder haunts us to this day: entire indigenous tribes wiped off the face of the earth and thousands of innocent lives taken during their witch trials.
So today, I honor my known ancestors: norwegian vikings and their descendants whose last name I share, The goddess and banshee queen Cliodhna, the noble O'Keefe clan, Anne Boleyn (a distant relation), Florence Nightingale (a family cousin) and the Cree woman Mistigoose.
Most of my ancestors were brave warriors ahead of their time, fighting against oppressive forces to change the world around them.
I am no different.
Today is Indigenous People's Day and I give thanks that I am one 🧡

New Moon, Who Dis?
I'll be creating some fun, plus size looks on each new moon for the sign's aesthetic and to inspire you. Let's draw some of those magical Libra vibes your way!
To me, Libra aesthetic is pinks and roses. We're channeling beauty and balance with our rosy pink shades and flower motifs. Note our snake friend representing the ouroboros, a mythical creature and symbol of the circular nature of our world. Everything in it's own time, everything in balance, and everything coming full circle.🌹🌑♎⚖️
Happy New Moon in Libra!
This moon is all about balance; work and play, family and self, inside and outside etc. We've all been caught up in the mundane rush of daily pandemic life, forgetting to create pockets of joy and fun where we can. Libra is pulling funny faces and blowing bubbles with their bubble gum, waiting for us to put our sneakers on to play at the park. Whatever joy looks like for you, make it your goal to experience some for yourself today.
This new moon also reminds us that we are due for a good pampering. Facials, ritual baths, massages, a special cup of tea; indulgent selfcare is on the menu. Whatever makes you feel beautiful inside and out. Remember to decolonize your beauty standards while you powder your noses. It's time to present your best self to the world and to the mirror.
