Two things I love, craft beer and fur babies. So when I get to combine those two things into my passion of community impact work, it's the trifector.
Last Saturday I attended the 11/52 Gala in aide of raising funds and awareness for the work they do. I attended with freshly purpled hair, my crazy cat dress, and a ridiculous little hat. If there was an event to wear this to, this was it!
After we went through the ordeal in 2021 with I was left wondering what happens to folks who are less fortunate than I who run into needing emergency pet, and vet care. That's when I found Parachutes For Pets, met their Founder and ED Melissa David, and since March 2022 Tripawd Penelope NEIPA has been giving back to pay forward the kindness our community gifted us when we needed it most.
It's been amazing to watch Parachutes For Pets grow from a handful of folks getting food, hampers, and a few dollars to folks who needed it, to the organization having an Advocacy Centre, thrift stores, and a team of folks bridging the necessary gap between support for people who have animals who rely on them, and frankly for people who also rely on their animals.
If you don't already, follow , like, share, donate pet food and good, and if you have a few spare dollars, that goes a long way too 🫶😻
!!! CALLING FOLKS WHO WANT TO BE PART OF 2025 BALLS, B***S, AND BEER CALENDAR !!!
A bunch of folks have expressed interest in doing our Balls, B***s & Beer Calendar that raises money and awareness for community health, and harm reduction.
ca and XhAle are doing call out for folks who are interested. It is 110% inclusive, and diverse. All that is required is consent, and a willingness to be wonderfully vulnerable in your authentic self.
Drop a tag below, or DM me. ❤️🍻
(We are still shooting mostly in Alberta, but may be able to make interprovincial happen. Shoots are required to be done by mid-October. Reach out, and let's see what magic we can make happen).
THIS IS NOT A CRAFT BEER POST, but I have to say something.
This one hits a very personal place.
As a woman with PCOS and also naturally higher T than most, as an ex power lifter, an ex competitive martial artist, and as someone with a sports science degree, and a few decades of field experience; the way she has been treated, and the fact she now has to have 24hr security at the games is woeful.
The way in which people have jumped on unnuanced information and uninformed news, armchair-athletes spouting off about things and the internal workings of a sport they know nothing about, and the bigotry... my fu***ng god.
She is an incredible athlete, with a natural advantage; just like Michael Phelps with size 14 feet for greater propulsion and naturally shorter legs that reduces drag, Eero Mantyrana (7 olympic medals in cross country) with the EPOR gene that allowed his body to boost red blood cell mass and hemoglobin driving 50% more oxygen to his body, or Usain Bolt whose mass technically should work against him for sprinting, but he has longer legs for his body size, and an active gene called ACTN3 powered by aluminum-rich Jamaican soil giving him an extraordinary amount of fast twitch muscle fibers.
'Be ok to ruin dinner' is a saying I have adopted for speaking up when bigots and folks who have blind biases spout off about things they know nothing about, who punch down, and who lack the curiosity to meet others in their perspectives, or to understand more beyond their small-world views.
It's heartbreaking that so many would take away so much from this woman; an accomplished athlete in her own right. People should be fu***ng ashamed of themselves. Especially those who've never undertaken such a journey, or attempted greatness like she has.
Spread THIS information like the fake-news folks have spread their bu****it.
End rant.
A BFF, appreciation post...
This photo pretty much sums up Laura Coles, and my friendship. Slightly off centre, but always aligned, and a good dose of f**kery for good measure.
In 2021 we joined forces for the Pink Boots Brew to brew the first commercially available Cold IPA in Alberta, Crispy Gurl. Since then it's done a rebrand with ourselves immortalized as science brewing prairie dog's on the can, and has become one of best sellers.
However the most value piece to this story is that Laura and I have seen each other through crushing lows, and exhilarating highs. And each time we have been each other's number cheerleader, and also a no-bu****it voice of reason. On more than one occasion we've had to talk each other off some kind of ledge, and we've also been able to celebrate, and support each other getting to the next big milestone, and hairy, audacious goal.
Women friendships are one thing. Women, small business owner friendships is another. And, women, small business friendships in male dominated industries is a whhhhooooole other level.
So, to my dearest friend Laura...
You're always enough.
You're one of the kindest, and caring people I know.
You're real, and vulnerable in your perfect imperfection.
You're more than capable, especially when you think you aren't.
Love you more than a Crispy Gurl on a hot summer's day, for real.
Love,
Me xoxo
Yeee-whore 🤠
My one and only Stampede post from your local harm reduction nerd, and Stampede Grinch.
Stampede'ing over the next 10 days? Heres 6 really easy ways to look after yourself, and others while you party...
1. 💉Carry Naloxone. You can get this free from your local pharmacy, or reach out to me (I always have stock). Familiarize yourself with the instruction sheet inside.
2. 💦Stock up on condoms and l**e. Could be for yourself, could be for pals, could be for a random, new friend you've not made yet. Sexy times are rad, protect everyone involved 🫶
3. ⚠️ALWAYS GET CONSENT. I ❤️ FRIES...
Freely given
Reversible
Informed
Enthusiastic
Specific
4. 🚰Hydrate to dominate. Have a H20 between the other treats, and carry refillable water bottles. Pace yourself, reduce the likelihood of sunstroke, and severity of hangovers.
5.🙉 Protect those ears. If you have minis, put head phones on them. You can get very inexpensive foam ear plugs from the pharmacy, or invest in specific ear plugs for music/festivals.
6. Be sunsmart. Cover your exposed skin in sunny places, apply and reapply sunscreen, wear a fancy as f**k cowboy hat.
HAVE FUN, BE SAFE, AND BE KIND TO EACH OTHER. ALWAYS.
_____
PS - Please also be aware of the adverse sideffects of large colonialized festivals like Stampede, and how they affects those who aren't as privileged...
- our houseless community are mostly displaced during these 2 weeks. Please don't p**s or puke in their home. Be EXTRA kind.
- service drivers get assaulted 30% more during this festival period. Tip, and be polite. They are there to get you to and from safe.
- understand bystander intervention, and use it if you see, or acknowledge someone is being put in an unsafe/unwanted position or circumstance. Domestic violence, and sexual assualt also increase by around 30% during this festival period.
- tip your service staff, and say please and thank you (this sounds common place, but it gets forgotten too often in these spaces)
- venue owners and managers, please remember it's not service staff's duty to put up with abuse to make you money.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR BEING RAD HUMANS TO YOURSELF, AND EACH OTHER 🤘
As Head of Quality Control at , it's very important that I assist with recipe design. The other week was studying weird spices.
Nap worthy reading if I do say so myself.
Honoured to be part of the 2024 Growth Accelerator cohort.
Over 8 weeks we gather online from across the country to learn, and discover together. On June 6 & 7 we will gather in person in Toronto to connect, and pitch for $10k to help us further our businesses 🤘
This year is the most diverse representation of people, and businesses. AND there are other socialventures like XhAle Brew Co.!!! More platforms like this need to see value in supporting social impact, not just capital gains and production!!!

Well, I get to do some cool s**t doing this beer stuff, but I think this kinda takes the cake...
With thanks to a pal from the Calgary Kangaroos Footy Club with a hook-up with Melbourne, Aus (my home town) homies will be able to down a few pints of a beer I helped create.
May 10-19 at Heartbreaker in Melbourne will be serving the X collab (can't reveal the style yet, but it's going to be a unique mash-up of styles!) and can be consumed by the pintfulls!
Melbourne homies, you've been asking when XhAle Brew Co. hits Aus, and I wish I could be with you, but it would bring my heart so much joy to get pics from pals sinking pints ♥️
XhAle will be brewing our version in August, and it will be released just in time for Fest beer season in Canada 🍻

Happy Birthday , and congratulations on 2yrs of brewing award winning suds 🍻♥️🫶
Jen and my craft beer paths have done an intertwining dance of interesting twists of fate. From following each other through jobs at breweries and learning institutions we both left because of toxic environments, to starting our own contract brewing companies, and now both employed brewing & cellaring with our pals at . I can't wait to watch you take strides on your next journey of building out your own space, and I hope to follow in those steps soon enough too.
There's something to be said for those who have walked through the fire, those who have stood their ground, walked the walk, not taken no for an answer, and still come put through it with an abundance of optimism, and compassion for others. This is Jen.
If you don't follow or yet, please do. Keep your pulse on another women-founded-and-lead award winning brewing company doing good work, and breaking those glass ceilings 🍻

Cheers friend ♥️
Much love and respect 🤘
It's International Women's Month.
I turned 42 on Pie Day.
took this ridiculous photo of me.
____
I don't have too much to say because I have an awful lot to say that I don't have the energy to type out right now.
I want to recognize my privilege as an English speaking, white, settler-born and now immigrant in colonial settled countries, Cis, q***r woman. I am grateful for the opportunities luck has given me, the physical and mental ability to pursue dreams and social impact, and in turn being able to go to the grind to get it.
And... I am tired.
Whatever you are up to this weekend, take a moment to be grateful for 3 things. It doesn't have to be any kind of grand gesture. A daily practice of gratefulness and what is a seemingly small mindfulness practice is proven over time to lead to a stronger sense of self, compassion for others, and deeper connection to our communities.
It's free. It doesn't cost you anything. And it's priceless.
This is the best gift and celebration of both International Women's Month and my born day you could give 🤘❤️🫶

(PS - shout out of gratefulness to my patient, kind, and supportive partner who is carrying me through this current slog. Also, he made me the one-off grey and gold XhAle sweater featured in this pic. While he thinks the logo is too high, I think it's just perfect.)
We are starting shoots for the 2025 calendar this Sunday and Monday in the Calgary and surrounding area!
The talented Ryan Orr who is .ca is in town, and we are getting some winter and snowy shots done.
Hit us up if you're keen!

100% of proceeds are donated to to support efforts of harm reduction, destigmatization, Truth and Reconciliation and community health ✌️
I've been meaning to post this for a while and add it to the collection of stories entitled "Drink good beer by good people".
Those that know me know that harm reduction is super important to me, and of course so is good craft beer. When you combine these things (plus doing it in excellent company with people like ) it's a perfect trifector.
Early November I hit this trifector visiting in Edmonton. I remember when they launched back in 2016, we're packaging in bomber bottles, and cleverly had a "Swap The Hops IPA" to (what I am assuming from a business perspective) make the most of unpredictable hops access at the time, being too small to warrant a hops contract, and (for funsies) simply just to keep the chaos of creating new beer.
They outgrew their tiny space where they brewed 350L batches (mind you all hand bottled and labeled), and in 2022 moved to Happy Beer Street in Richie.
The best part about this group is that through their motley crew make-up they have adopted active community care, and inclusion practices by hosting diverse space events and being proud members of .
My pick of brews for this specific day was their Hay Maker Wheated Pils, and (what I have now discovered is an out-of-production) Baltic Porter which was a lovely blend of molasses, burnt caramel, slight nuttiness and the perfect amount of dried fruit notes.
So, if you happen to be in Edmonton or passing through make sure you stop past, get comfy on their shabby-chique vintage corner couch sectional, pull up some games, and drink good craft beer made by good humans 🤘🍻❤️
2023 taught me...
..to set better boundaries to create more balance..to lean harder into mindfulness and gratefulness praxrice..to ask for what I need..to be kinder to myself..to be uncompromising in my values..to let go of what doesn't serve me anymore..to know my community has always got me
..that I am a force.
Wishing you all a safe, compassionate, and kind new year.
❤️🍻🤘❤️
Officially became a Canuck yesterday.
First call of duty to my new-fellow Citizens was to proudly wear my best Canadian Tuxedo.
You're welcome, and I'm not sorry (because I'm still an Aussie as***le underneath the double denim swagger).
Thanks Canada for letting me vote, get a passport, and not being able to deport me if I commit a serious crime! Love you all.

-----
From a very personal note about this calendar and what it means to me...
I am ambling towards my 42nd birthday in a few months. I notice the lines and the weight in places it's never been. I have had to adopt a new pathway of grace for myself, reminding myself I don't judge someone else in the way I judge myself. Each year I do this calendar I am treating it as a tribute to the aging process - A bold defiance of patriarchal norms that diminish women's worth as they start to show age, and a laugh in the face of social norms that oversexualize nakedness (also thanks to the patriarchy and religious dogma).
From a harm reduction perspective, the process of modeling and creating this calendar is a process that emboldens self-acceptance, self-esteem, confidence, and vulnerability. These are all the elements that help those who struggle with mental health and addictions - often those who are our most vulnerable - to find places to recover (in whatever form that may be) and live fully in the way they chose for themselves without shame or guilt.
Through meeting ourselves and others where they are at with compassion, and through destigmatization of restrictive and antiquated norms we truly build better communities 🫶❤️🤘
They say "don't meet your heros"... They were wrong.
Beyond honoured to be last minute additions with 's award winning saisons for Dageraad's Slow Beer Bottle Series.

Tomorrow, Sept 29 2020, brews the first commercial 30hL release. This beer is the culmination of many heads, hands & hearts, and one that will be a giant mark in not just my professional history, but also personally, when I look back in years to come. XhAle hasn't just been about building a brand & making beer, XhAle gave me purpose again and allowed me to rebuild myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This beer uses not just some of the best Canadian malt, but best Alberta malt with & contributing to around 95% of the grain bill. A great way to celebrate ! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A giant thank you to Jason, Head Brewer , and all the crew for their care and time into making sure we nail it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While excited, there is also an element of feeling exposed & vulnerable in this process. To everyone who has and continues to be a part of the mental & emotional support in bringing this dream to a reality, grateful is an understatement. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Provocative beer for conscious thinkers & drinkers coming mid-October!
The other love of my life I am so grateful to share with fellow Beer Boss Babe & brewer had a massive milestone yesterday where our Lukey got his first lifetime win on his second lifetime race, AND won streaks ahead of the competition earning him some big respect.
Two years ago at the Canadian Derby in Edmonton Natasha casually asked me if I would like to purchase a horse with their group, and I jumped at the chance. A peppy yearling by the name of Luckenbach was ours four weeks later. It's been a journey with Luke through growing pains & injury, but our trainer Jamie has tended to him with so much care, intuitiveness, and respect that Luke wants to run & is loving life on the track.
My visits to the stables are therapy on top of my actual therapy for me. Luke is a giant suck who loves a snuggle & chin scratches, and is a jealous boy if you visit with the other horses. If anyone is interested in getting into the sport and community it's really accessible and there are a few options to start out. Get at me if you are interested!
This is .sutton . Calder is not only a big part of Alberta Craft Beer having done everything from sales to brewing & production across a few breweries as well as being the spawn of , Calder has one of the biggest hearts in industry, and I'm proud to call him one of my best friends. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While Calder was unable to make it for our first calendar shoot, he did give us a teaser when I visited him at last week. Put your crispy bois down and give this PIN UP BOOOOOIIIII a round of applause 👏 🙌 👌 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But seriously, this guy has been my cheer squad when I've made some of my biggest moves, has been the laughter at the end of my longest days, and literally reminded me to breath when I didn't feel like I was able to take another breath. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm so grateful for you mate ❤🍻🙏⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
#🍻 #❤️🍻
Little did I know in 2009 when this picture was taken I would be celebrating my 11th Canada Day...
I'm grateful for the opportunities I have been granted, the liberties that have afforded me privilege, and the family I have collected on the way.
Your mountains & your beautiful land is why I fell in love, your people is why I stayed.
Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦❤🇦🇺
Drink local, wear local, rep HARD.
Fun fact: I purchase 98% of my clothing in thrift stores because 'Reduce, Re-use, Re-cycle', EXCEPT for my obsession with brewery schwag.
Meet the wonderful , the mind behind the brewing of .
A quick stop at before heading off grid to Abraham Lake to get some hiking in and strategic development planning done to release our first beer by October.
I'm so honored to be working with this wonderful human and excited for the first steps in our journey together.
A Canadian classic to share with classic humans such as the one and only & ❤⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Grabbing a DDC takes me back to sitting on their patio August 2018 in Montreal. I could eat their cheese & charcuterie board for dinner everyday and never be sad.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tonight we paired the infamous Péché Mortel with Chris' homemade tiramisu & it couldn't have been a better pairing. The 9.5% ABV helps cut the heaviness of the cream while complimenting the handmade coffee soaked sponge cake. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Couldn't have asked for better pairing in the company I shared it with more than anything, because great beer should be shared with equally great people.
Flashback to week 5 of When The World Broke... When a couple of craft beer faces 'got together' to promote 'Drink local craft beer & stay at home'. (blooper shots included!)
Featured:
I haven't commented much on this period. To be completely vulnerable I personally went through a lot of loss including losing my relationship, permanent loss of my job & a family death back in Aus. I flew solo for five weeks reeling & dealing until my buddy .of.the.rhino moved in (who also gets photo cred for this!) which was a lucky break for me.
Now that life is opening back up and we can visit our beloved breweries I want to say a big thank-you to my community & craft beer family who pulled me through. Without you checking in, dropping off goodies at my backdoor, popping over for a social distancing beer or sneaking me in through the loading dock of the brewery for a social distancing brew day visit, I wouldn't have been able to get through to today.
Craft beer isn't just about the liquid. It is about the family you make that you share the liquid over. I am blessed & grateful that through a passion I have been given so much more than a career.
!!! ALBERTA BREWERIES !!! A chance to show your support and unite us all in a mission.
Worldwide collab opportunity lead by Weathered Souls Brewing Co.
https://blackisbeautiful.beer
'The Black is Beautiful initiative is a collaborative effort amongst the brewing community and its customers, in an attempt to bring awareness to the injustices that many people of color face daily. Our mission is to bridge the gap and provide a platform to show that the brewing community is an inclusive place for everyone of any color. We are asking for all breweries and brewers far and wide to raise a glass with us in unison and participate in this collaboration.
In the collaboration efforts, we would ask for participating breweries to do the following:
- Donate 100% of the beer's proceeds to local foundations that support police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged
- Choose their own entity to donate to local organizations that support equality and inclusion
- Commit to the long-term work of equality
Weathered Souls will personally be giving part of our proceeds to the Know Your Rights Campaign. As much as we want this to be about raising money, the real issue is bringing education and information, which will bring forth change to a system that has fractured so many families and has been broken for decades.
This platform and collaboration is about understanding and supporting people of color and inclusion. We ask that you please stand with us to create something that has never been seen before and show the world the brewing community is one of a kind.
For the beer we thought it be appropriate to brew a stout, as it is in the name of the initiative, Black is Beautiful. Weathered Souls will provide the recipe for the stout base, please place your own spin and love into this. The sky is the limit as far as creativity. KD Designs has done an excellent job of creating a label that we feel places the correct symbolism to the project. We ask that everyone use the label that has been provided. We will leave a space open on the label for everyone’s own logos and ideas.'
