Hey! Glad to have you visiting my new page!
If you don’t already know me, my name is Kayla Walsh and I’m kind of your “Everything” girl. I have so many hobbies, so many passions, so many skills, that you might get dizzy following me around.
For a brief second, I’ll tell you where I started and how I ended up here.
I was born in Calgary, AB, but my heart has always lived in the places I’ve traveled. Hungary is near and dear to my heart, as that’s really where my story starts; with my grandpa, in 1956, as a Hungarian Refugee. I’m a total “Heinz 57” but that’s where I identify my roots.
I grew up playing and loving music, and was lucky enough to play in incredible places in the world, including a Castle, on and Island, in Scotland. A one-in-a-million opportunity. I still play the piano and I teach both piano and voice now, since working through to gr 10 RCM and minor music studies in University.
Yes, I started a University journey, where my major was in Medicine and Trauma is where my passion is. I love the intensity, the demand, the energy, the mystery, and more. I’ve even been lucky enough to travel with these studies as well. But I am a Mom first, so this is on hold now. Someday (no rush), I will finish what I started.
Photography has always been my “side hustle”. I look back at some really old photos, and thank my stars that I’ve learned a thing or two in the courses I’ve taken over the years and the people that have let me practice on them.
Come Fall 2019, I am launching my own program, ISC, that is a platform to better support people in their mental, physical, and emotional health. This is a huge undertaking (it’s already been 7 years since I started!) and I’m so excited to share it with everyone. Feel free to take a look! Self Care isn’t what people believe it is, and I’m determined to change that. inspiringselfcare.org
I dabbled in Independent Business Ownership for a while and although that didn’t work out for me in the means that I thought it would, I learned some incredibly valuable skills that I still use even today, and I even met my handsome Husband during this time in my life.
I am lucky to be married to an incredible man, Nic, and together we have a beautiful little boy, Kameron, and in a matter of days, we will have a little girl too. Never have our hearts been so full!
I’m lucky to have some amazing friends and family as well, both near and far and I always hope they realize how special they are to me.
Speaking of Special, my aim with photography isn’t to “be the best” in the art or even second best, but I love the feeling of being able to capture special moments between couples, families, newborns, and more.
You may find that I love black and white photos.. I really do! For me, a photo should convey emotion and sometimes we get so distracted by the beautiful colours that we miss the emotion in the photos. By taking out colour, we’re forced to focus on the really important parts of the picture, like expressions, or eyes, or direction, etc.
So, if you choose to do a session with me, be prepared to have a LOT of fun, some giggles, and I might get a little bossy... but I mean well! And please feel free to share the products of our sessions with your own friends and family. The more, the merrier!
If you actually read this far, thanks for sticking it out! I can’t wait to book a session with you!
Cheers,
Kayla
