That's A Wrap!

It is with a healthy dose of mixed emotions that I have decided to close shop at Torill's Table effective December 31, 2023.

Torill's Table began with my version of my mothers 'vafler' dessert recipe. I brought the recipe with me from Norway and I tweaked it to add nutritious ingredients to nurture my family with a healthy breakfast. My sons loved the waffles and then more family and friends loved them and I knew I wanted to share the love with the world.

Torill's Table was inspired by one of my favorite Norwegian words, "kos". Kos (pronounced 'kuus') loosely translates to 'simple moments of joy' and simple moments of joy are what I like to live my life within. With the inspiration of kos, I developed the formulations for my waffle mixes and my hope is that you experienced my secret ingredient and had your own simple moments of joy while nibbling on a Torill's Table waffle.

We will be taking orders until midnight on December 31, 2023 and then Torill's Table will be officially closed.

Almost weekend. After a long week I feel like a good brunch is in place. Slow down and ease into a cozy and yummy start to the weekend. And, true to me, I love waffles. Sweet and salty with eggs, bacon bits and maple syrup.

Waffles or pancakes? My tradition is Norwegian style waffles, but the more I make pancakes the more I enjoy the variety. I never use maple syrup on my waffles so it’s a treat when I make pancakes. Brown cheese and maple syrup is the BEST!!! Add berries and have my little moment of heaven. What’s your favourite?

Love pumpkin?
Growing up in Norway pumpkin was not something I ever thought of except for in stories. But when I came to Canada I was introduced to this amazing fruit. And since then I have played with different pumpkin recipes. I do love a good old-fashioned pumpkin pie. But I LOVE pumpkin waffles and especially pumpkin waffle cake with cream cheese icing. Not only are they fun and delicious, but they are so easy to make. A real treat in the darker cooler days of fall.

Is it just us, or have the summer months flown by??? 🤔

It's hard to believe that a new school year is just around the corner. Whether your kids are excited about going back to school or want a year-round summer break, there's no denying that some busy days lie ahead. Check out this waffle sandwich recipe- perfect for a kid’s school lunch!

Step 1) Create a Norwegian waffle, Belgian waffles, or pancakes by following the steps on the back of our waffle/pancake mix bag.

Step 2) While that's cooking, prepare your toppings. We used shredded chicken, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes, but this part is entirely up to you!

Step 3) Once your toppings are ready to go, assemble the sandwich! Either take one Norwegian waffle and fold it in half or use two Belgian waffles or pancakes as a replacement for bread.

Step 4) Pack up in a container and wait for your kids to come home from school with a full belly and a great mood!

We bet you don't know the history of the Belgian waffle, so here’s your chance to learn. The Belgian Waffle made its way over to America during the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle, but it wasn’t popular until the 1964 World’s Fair hosted in Queens, New York. The waffle was originally known as the Brussels waffle. Its defining factors are its crispy exterior and light, airy, and fluffy interior. It was served both plain and with whipped cream and sliced strawberries. No one was really attracted to the “Brussels Waffle,” but the family selling them in Queens realized it was due to the name. As soon as they advertised it as a Belgian waffle, they saw a spike in consumer interest and popularity!
