Kala Bhavan of Calgary was founded in 1987 under the direction of Roma Thakore, and is focused on promoting performing arts in Calgary.
We focus on teaching traditional Bharatnatyam and folk dances of India, along with fusion & Indian contemporary. Under the lead of the artistic director and senior choreographers, Kala Bhavan’s items are often influenced by other dance styles while still maintaining traditional elements, providing their dancers with a strong foundation. Namaste for a Happy Indian Independence Day (August 15th).

Most of us have grown up outside of India but growing up learning varieties of Indian dance styles, attending Indian cultural events, exposure to the multitude of India’s cultures, languages, foods, traditional attire, religions, and of course the movies, we feel strongly attached to the Indian culture and appreciate how much social media has brought forth the beauty of our culture, especially Indian classical dance.
