A musical journey from Holocaust to hope, experience the Calgary Phil and Violins of Hope in a unique concert, where restored instruments, once belonging to Jewish victims of the Holocaust, come to life through stories of injustice, suffering, resilience, and survival. Wherever there was music, there was hope.
This concert is presented in partnership with the Holocaust and Human Rights: Remembrance and Education department of the Calgary Jewish Federation.
The instruments featured in Violins of Hope are brought to Calgary courtesy of KSW Calgary Holocaust Education Fund, the Legacy Fund, and the Calgary Jewish Federation Holocaust and Human Rights: Commemoration and Education.
🎻 National Music Centre in partnership with the Calgary Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary, is pleased to announce the Violins of Hope exhibition at Studio Bell.
Open May 3 through June 16, Violins of Hope is an exhibition and collection of historic string instruments from before and during the Holocaust. The restored instruments once belonged to Jewish victims and survivors of the Holocaust and now share the story that wherever there is music, there is hope.
Violins from the exhibition will also be incorporated into upcoming live events:
🎻 May 26: Montreal rapper Socalled, known for blending klezmer and hip-hop, will perform live with his international string quartet.
🎻 June 2: NMC will present 2023 JUNO Award-winning singer and composer Lenka Lichtenberg, featuring Drew Jurecka and Rebekah wolkstein on strings.
