The Water Project reports that children in Sub-Saharan Africa carry an average of 10 pounds (5.5kg) or more (water plus the container), which can also cause physical damage to a child’s body. Adolescent women carry up to 45 pounds (20kg).

Everyday Sub-Saharan African women and girls walk over 6km to reach water (notice that we did not say clean water). Time spent getting water is time spend away from attaining basic education.
