🌸🌿 As you dive into gardening and other activities around the house this summer, remember to keep good form to help prevent injuries.

Lift with your legs: when picking up heavy objects, bend with your knees, not your back and keep items close to your body.

Keep good posture: avoid hunching over, keep your back straight and engage your core.

Take breaks: rest and stretch to avoid muscle strain or fatigue.

Alberta Primary Care Networks work to continually build a solid foundation for exceptional healthcare. How do we do it? One way is by providing support to your healthcare providers, allowing them to deliver personalized care that is tailored to your unique needs.

We do this by offering:

🥼 Access to a diverse range of health professionals, such as dietitians, kinesiologists, pharmacists and mental health therapists who collaborate hand-in-hand with your family doctor.

💻 Free workshops and programs to help you better manage your physical and mental health.

🤝 After hours or same-day care or support for patients who need semi-urgent care but can't get in to see their doctor.

Explore our website at mosaicpcn.ca to learn more about what we have to offer and how we can support you and your health today.

May marks both Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month in Canada. ☀️

Summertime is fast approaching, so now is a perfect time to learn about skin cancer and what to watch for. Make sure to save this post so you have a reference! Or head to https://bit.ly/4a3w9hf for more information.

Skin cancer can occur anywhere on the body, which means performing regular skin checks on ourselves, regardless of our skin tone, is crucial.

🔎 What are you checking for? Remember the ABCDE’s:

☀️ Asymmetry: The shape on one side is different from that on the other
☀️ Border: The visible edge is irregular and ragged
☀️ Colour: There is colour variation with brown, black, red, grey or white within it
☀️ Diameter: Growth is typical of melanoma — it can measure more than 6mm
☀️ Evolution: Look for change in colour, size, shape or symptoms

Checking your skin once a month will help with early detection. If you find anything suspicious, talk to your doctor.

Spring weather is here to stay! 🌷

As the days get longer and warmer, make sure you are keeping yourself sun safe with these tips:

➡️ Drink plenty of water. Although it’s important to stay hydrated year-round, it’s crucial during the warm summer months. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, you could still be dehydrated.
➡️ Be sure to avoid spending too much time in the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. UV rays and heat tend to be the strongest during this time.
➡️ If you are exercising outside, take frequent breaks in shaded areas when possible.
➡️ And of course, always remember to put on sunscreen, wear sunglasses and cover up as much as possible to protect yourself from the sun’s rays.

Enjoy soaking up the sun safely this spring and summer! 🌞

Vaccination is the most effective defence against measles. While it is possible to contract measles even if you are vaccinated, efficacy is estimated between 85-95% with a single dose, rising to nearly 100% with the second dose. Vaccinated people who contract measles typically experience much milder symptoms. 😷

If you think you may have been exposed to measles, or have symptoms of measles, please call HealthLink at 811 to review before seeking medical care. If you have additional questions, talk to your family doctor.

We are so honoured to celebrate physicians like Dr. Shafeena Premji, who find inspiration in their patients' stories and the privilege of caring for them. 🥼 Being a family physician means more than just managing health — it's about empowering, guiding, and forming connections.

Q: What inspired you to become a family doctor?

A: The beauty of being a family doctor is the cherished and deep-seated relationship you build with patients — real people with real lives and real stories. My patients' life experiences have had a direct impact on me. My patients teach me every day about the intricacies of life. And as their family physician, I have the privilege to empower, guide, support, and walk their journey with them. There is really nothing else like it. They become like your family.

As we close out our Physician Appreciation series, we are proud to continue to champion the extraordinary bond between doctors and patients, where trust and care make them feel like family. Thank you to all our amazing physicians and thank you for following along!

During Physician Appreciation Month, we celebrate the invaluable relationships physicians like Dr. Janet Reynolds build with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Let's honour the dedication and teamwork of physicians who help carry the burden of care with grace and compassion. Thank you, Dr. Reynolds, for your excellent care!

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being a family doctor?

A: Relationships, relationships, relationships, with patients and families, my clinic teams, my PCN colleagues. I love working with a team. It’s the support, the comfort in knowing I don’t shoulder the entire burden of care.

Make sure to follow along as we wrap up our series highlighting the incredible work of doctors across Alberta. 🩺

Throughout our Physician Appreciation series, we are reminded of the invaluable role played by family physicians like Dr. O'Riordan, who find fulfillment in the diversity of primary care. Their ability to make a difference is a testament to the power of compassionate healthcare. ❤️

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being a family doctor?

A: The diversity of the field, and the ability to build relationships with patients over an extended period of time. No two days are the same in primary care, and while each day brings its own challenges, it is very rewarding, knowing that you are making a difference to patients' lives.”

Join us as we continue to honour these dedicated physicians!

Thank you Dr. Luelo, for advocating for patient involvement in healthcare decisions.

Don't be afraid to speak up and ask questions—it's your right! Here's to the physicians who empower us to be proactive. 💪

Q: Do you have any advice for patients wanting to take a more active role in their care?

A: Ask questions, especially the ones that you are afraid to say out loud. Ask for links to help you understand your condition. Ask for written next steps so you won’t lose track when you leave the office.

Make sure to follow along as we continue to highlight the incredible work of doctors across Alberta.

🥼 Thank you to Dr. Donaldson and all the dedicated healthcare professionals making a difference. Your commitment to serving our community inspires us all!

Q: What inspired you to become a family doctor?

A: My father helped to open one of Montana's first "community health centers," serving uninsured and underinsured residents. Medicine, for him, was a great privilege that he took seriously.

I think a combination of pride in his work, familiarity with the vocation, and my own desire to help advocate for the well-being of my community all made family medicine an easy choice for me.

Stay tuned for more posts in our physician appreciation series as we recognize & share the stories of doctors across Alberta. 👩‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️
