Meet our farm managers for this season, Juliana and Luther ☀️ We’ve been hard at work preparing the new farm and are thrilled to have these two join our team for the summer. You’ll likely see them at the farm if you come by to volunteer, book a team visit, or pick up donations

We’re hiring farm managers this summer! As a farm manager, you will primarily be responsible for day to day activities at the farm, and leading groups and new volunteers 🌱👩🏽‍🌾 As we’re starting up at a new location, this is also a great opportunity to be involved in farm planning and set up. Our new location is accessible by car, bike or transit.

Gardening/farming experience is preferred but not required. Must be 15-30 years old and a Canadian citizen/permanent resident/refugee (per Canada Summer Jobs) and available to work 30 hours per week starting June 1 until mid-end of September 2024. We need help setting up our new farm location! Please contact us with any recommendations or contacts. We’re looking for:

🌱 dump truck/pick up trucks or transport service to bring compost, top soil, and mulch to our new location

We’re growing somewhere new 🌱 We’re excited to announce the location of our new urban farm! Join us this Spring/Summer to help us rebuild and continue donating produce to food access programs and people who are food insecure 🍅🥒 Although this location is much smaller than all our previous ones, we’re looking forward to being in a transit accessible area with water access, and surrounded by a supportive community. Volunteering and group visits will resume in June and shifts will be posted on our website at that time!

One of our awesome volunteers Heather is selling seeds in support of Grow Calgary. Funds will assist us with farm relocation costs and maintenance for this upcoming season 🌱 There’s tons of seeds for sale like tomato, squashes, peppers, beans and peas and all at 50 cents-$1 a pack. Grow Calgary's 10 Year Anniversary Celebrate 10 years of Grow Calgary! Join us for a bbq, yoga, planting, crafts and raffle prizes. This event is all-ages/family friendly.

This week we harvested garlic and onions 🧄 🧅 They will be left to cure on racks for the next couple of weeks. We “overwinter” our garlic and onions, meaning that we plant in the fall and harvest the following summer. After harvesting, they need to cure in a warm and well ventilated area. This helps increase storage time and ensures the best flavour!

Unfortunately our harvest has been very delayed this year. ➡️ Typically around this time, we have loads of greens like kale, spinach and chard ready with beans, peas and lettuce closely behind. But due to increased construction right next to the farm and less visits at the farm by our dog, we’ve had a huge increase in wildlife like deer and gophers that have disseminated our garden beds and eaten the majority of our greens 💔 This, plus the up and down weather we’ve had and an impending move to prepare for has definitely made this a challenging growing season.

We are so grateful for our awesome farm managers and volunteers that are helping us to turn the season around with their creativity, skills and hard work 💚 We harvested our first handful of tomatoes earlier this week and we’re hoping to have lots of other produce ready for harvest over the next couple months! If you’d like to get involved, please go to our website and sign up to volunteer or donate funds to cover farm supplies and moving costs 🌱

Mark your calendars, we’re having a yard sale! Come to the farm on July 22 and July 23 from 10am-3pm to find some great treasures and help us de clutter before our move at the end of this season ➡️ We have lots of gardening and farming supplies including pots/trays, compost bins, equipment, and water tanks. We also have other items like our micro homes, windows, glass growlers and more!

No RSVP required. Please come during the scheduled time frame. Items are sold on a first come, first serve basis. Prices are negotiable.
