One of the most traditional and important figures in a person's life is that of the mother, and when this presence is celebrated, Mother's Day is celebrated and gains even more importance and/or recognition due to the function perform of raising, educating, treating, transmitting important values for life and its continuation. Mother's Day also becomes special to thank and celebrate all the memories of presence, care and even certain demanding moments.

In 1975, Canada opened its doors to our family from Saigon, Vietnam. Our family always wanted to celebrate Mother's Day properly. We had an image that whatever situation the family was in, children must try their best. In Vietnamese tradition, it was a tremendous gratitude that was beyond any comparison. Therefore, on this occasion, even when we were far away from home, across the sea and ocean, our family always tried to do something for our mother.

"Mother" is always a special companion and makes life worth living, and while this seems simple, the daylong emotions are sincere, full of human love and gratitude to all the dear mothers. Mother's Day to our family is a meaningful occasion, expressing the love of daughters and sons for their mothers, reminding everyone to love, respect, and take good care of their mothers in their lives. This beautiful tradition was established a long time ago, associated with a beautiful story about the devotion of a son to his mother.

In the beginning of January, I sat on my mother’s chair from the comfort of the living room, snuggled under a new soft blanket, hot chocolate in hand and a pair of Christmas socks gifted to me by my parents. As I started soul-searching, thinking about the water buffalo in Vietnam, how valuable they are to consider as family members and my reflection of the happiness felt being at home, all the while, I missed being away from our restaurant business, I sensed there was a calm silence which led to tear drops rolling down my cheeks.

Tear drops remind me of many good times and disappointing times that occurred in life and in business life, our minds and hearts can intertwine with immense disconnection which seldom changes unless we overcome with laughter and the mindfulness of success. Some of my happiest memories happened during a time when I received a heart-felt letter from customers, an incredible offer with great opportunities for my family’s restaurant business, or a simple gesture of supplying the needs of others resulted in a cheerful smile upon their faces that lingers forever and ever in my heart. But I also find though, through good things, there are situations that made me feel sad inside. Many of which I accepted to be a part of the transition of life. And so, I decided my New Year’s resolution is to embrace what I cannot control but to strive for excellence in all areas of life.

In 2023, I must admit that I have never stopped learning in daily life. Although I am older now, I’m confident the pillars of the capacities to withstand sustain me throughout the challenging year that won’t end the same way they started. From the chances of meeting new people, developing new team members to cultivate lasting memories in our restaurant business, creating Vietnamese cuisine for all to enjoy and I ponder the great wonders of creation in communities, people and nature. I roamed my city, especially the downtown core, to experience coffees that my mother so loved, I was filled with amazement of where my family and I used to be and where we are now - I didn’t feel disheartened to say the least. Past year ups and downs lead to honest intentions by embracing tiny yet significant celebration in the lives of others, in the joyous lives of my families especially in mine which is exceedingly welcoming to a point of gratification we all partake.

Most importantly, in 2023, despite all the wrongdoings I have encountered, I realized that truly forgiveness is a great gift you give to yourself which sets me free from all the hurt that I carried throughout the past year. I made up my mind to allow situations to work themselves out and not being hard on myself for the things not of my own choice. Now I sleep in peace at night and wake up without worrying about what tomorrow brings. In 2023, I realized each day has its trouble of its own so tomorrow will worry about itself.

As 2023 is ending, I can’t help but wish upon a star that I should had acquire more but due to the overwhelm busyness, it is not uncommon to feel this way, the desire to do more on social media, to resolve situations as quickly as possible and to focus on my business plan just to name few, and all the while spending quality time with loved ones. Would I dare to say that achievements are ever enough to satisfy the hunger for more? Perhaps in due time, all things will make sense. Work life balance as a full-time manager and small business owner (in the company of many other responsibilities) can create enormous emotional heartache, but as I enter this year of reflection, I am reminded I have done what I can. As for me, missed achievements for what I desired are conceptual framework to better position yourself in the future that doesn’t stop to show myself compassion for all the things I did achieve. As I have learnt to grow and live and how it brings plenty of enthusiasm, which is sufficient.

True success lies in the daily bustle of doing good for others no matter the perception received whether it proceeds with misunderstanding or just not acknowledging the truth of the matter. The commitment for the new chapter to push dedication and consistent value to our restaurant business never cease the boundaries to foster in the pursuit of cultivating mindful happiness, to better people’s lives and to grow in our own as to strive becoming perfect will help embrace challenging times and enrich these moments marked by personal triumphs and transformation of the person we are today.

As I exhaust my energy to convey my experiences of 2023, I desire to express from the bottom of my heart a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, with gratefulness and gratitude towards all our dearest customers, our special guests and our beloved friends, families near & far. Together, in times of uncertainty and the issues of life, I hope we all come together to support one another in ways to prove humanity exists out of selflessness to better ourselves by turning our future bright that is still to be written in the coming stages of new beginnings of 2024 and beyond😇

Since 2014, we felt in house delivery model would be for the best interest to our wonderful customers in turn promotes our food business.

We were aware of the initial investment's costs such as vehicle maintenance, training and fuel which demands a great deal of our sacrifice & time as well as the resources to properly implement became a challenge on a daily basis.

For the last 10 years, we did our best to find ways for our yummy foods to be delivered to our customers' home, as a result, to further reach our influence by expansion of our business, many factors were helpful deciding between a partnership with third party delivery services or in-house solution would ultimately come down to the specific needs of our business.

By establishing a substantiable delivery strategy is important for our restaurant business but in order to find comfort in diligently plan and ex*****on with hopes to bear much fruits long in the future it is essential continual providing food deliveries to our beloved customers is to offer our trusted partnership with third-party delivery services.

We are truly blessed to have our amazing customers who supported our local small business. Our customers' support has been a driving force behind our success and we deeply appreciative of it. Your trust in our products and your enduring patience for our services especially helping new comers to settle in Canada has been a huge factor in our growth. Our heartfelt thanks to you and yours for choosing us and the contributions have been instrumental to our brand🍜

This alone is our reason as to why our sense of gratitude became our utmost joy on thanksgiving as we reflect our experiences over the past year.

In the midst of difficulties and/or challenges whether sunny days or hard ones as well, our immense strive to overcome, helps us realize all we have comes not because of what we have done, but the blessing we received which doesn't keep us up at night but rids the worrying and the supernatural peace that is given encourages us to move forward.

Dear Mom. Because of you, I am who I am today. Life was difficult in the early 80's when we immigrated to Canada. We wouldn't have the life that we have now if it wasn't for your wisdom. Since you lived your life in a lot of ways helping that by realizing the opportunity you have given me such a wonderful place (our restaurant business) where I can serve others especially mothers from all walks of life. I just want you to be happy and not to worry. In this life our Lord have made all things new. I'm grateful beyond measure, & my life is a reflection of your love. Con yêu mẹ❤️

It's been almost 10 years since the last visit at my favorite library to write my family's 2000 plus hours restaurant business plan. Now one of the largest developers given us an incredible opportunity to expand our full service restaurant business into a fast service concept at one of their malls, & beyond! For the past couple of years here at Saigon Maxim, we understood how difficult it has been for all of us especially during challenging times. Because of these very things, we greatly cherish the glory of Christmas as it is not only the best time of the year for families nor it's a fairy tale or it's a legend but the heart of the story of Christmas is the most important historical event that ever transpire on this planet. Now we are just a few days before Christmas. Of course, the busyness can be difficult but what is most important is our togetherness. It is a thought to which we put into thinking about others, it is a selfless time, where forgiveness becomes a gift we give and brings forth indescribable joy. Joy teaches us by seeking those things that brings temporary pleasure doesn’t work but to seek those things naturally produce sustainability of the greatest love and hope. From our family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas! We will be closed on the 24th and on Christmas day to spend quality time with family, friends and get some rest & relaxation. We love you with a special kind of love and we thank you for your continual support for local businesses. We are forever grateful❤️

Our parents were born and raised in Vietnam, and during the late 70’s, they left their country with a broken heart but they hope for a bright future in a distant dream that carried them through the difficult journey ahead which made them who they are today.

Our parents were quick to attach themselves by easily identifying to a very special day and this is their thanksgiving story.

As my siblings and I grew up in Calgary, our parents always made sure to make thanksgiving special. Our childhood together was filled with wonders and excitement not knowing whether we will receive our turkey dinner or not such as our friends who were fortunate than we were since we were poor in every aspect.

Regardless of our parents situation and the hardship they endured, they have always made sure to celebrate it even if it meant we didn’t have turkey. Instead, we had Vietnamese food. Creating these dishes were affordable back then and still is today. We have always wanted to have dinner rolls but we had salad rolls and Banh Mi which is Vietnamese baguettes. Although our parents purchased mashed potatoes and gravy from the famous Colonel Sanders, KFC, having mashed potatoes and gravy to us brought great joy to our hearts as it was the closest to having a actual thanksgiving dinner. We thought at the time, this was the most wonderful experience for our family but really it was just our Vietnamese dinner together.

As the years passed by, before thanksgiving, our parents would ventured to actually prepared a turkey and mashed potatoes guided by advice from people they met in Church. We are thankful of them for loving our parents to show them the meaning of thanksgiving by giving more than receiving.

As we grew up, thanksgiving have always been the perfect time to express our gratitude to family and great friends for standing by our side every year, caring for us, in fact, made us smile to see what we have in life. We are grateful to the people who made us happy which our souls blossom many times over. Our parents have always tried their best to feed our family however our greatest memories is when they fed their friends and the community they hold dear which is perfect by the passion for inclusion of acceptance and love that is beautiful in every single person they encountered.

Cheerfully our parents is blessed every thanksgiving, braver than they believed, stronger than they seemed and smarter than they thought. Real life will not always go our way but the understanding and knowledge of what is working in our lives can help us not only to survive but surmount our difficulties. Now we are able to serve wholeheartedly spreading our gratefulness by creating the very best Vietnamese foods our beloved friends and customers deserve.

And so, this thanksgiving, our restaurant will be closed to spend time with our family giving thanks to the many blessings we receive over the years and we wish you and yours the most wonderful thanksgiving! From our family to yours, happy thanksgiving!!😍

Dearest beloved customers whom we cherish. Its been a tough year for all of us especially as a community. Through it all. Our experiences made us stronger. We are believing for steadfast hope this coming year. Our kitchen will be closed for repairs from December 20th to the 25th and we will be open on the 26th. Thank you for all of your support during COVID-19! We are grateful and very appreciative of all of our wonderful customers. Although 2 months have passed and many things have changed but we remain the same. We have shown strength through uncertain times and overcome the difficult challenges. As we move forward continuing to flattening the curve, dine in service is available at 50% percent capacity - 10 tables but no more than 6 people per table. With a heavy heart, the news of COVID-19 continues to impact all communities across Canada, especially our precious community. As a result, we want to assure you that all appropriate precautionary measures are being put into place to ensure that our customers and staff members are kept safe.

Prior to the declaration of a public health emergency, we have always consistently cleaned and sanitized our restaurant. However we have increased the frequency of cleaning at our service counter. Inside our store, rest assured that all surfaces are sanitized frequently and that our staff members will give you prompt and friendly service so as to limit the time spent within our restaurant.

Our first priority is the safety of our customers and staff. At this time dining-in service will not be available. For your convenience in-house to go orders & delivery are both available options! We are able and more than willing to accept payment by phone. As advised by Alberta Health Services, please stay home if you are ill.

We appreciate your support especially during this difficult time. Please stay safe and look after one another as we will endure this together!

As I was eating a delicious meal of beef stew egg noodle soup made fresh from yesterday night. I thought of how blessed we are with the people who work diligently everyday for us and how lovely our precious customers who take their time out of their busy schedule to visit us. Saint Valentine was right by saying, "You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly. Where there is love there is life. Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold." I believe his death was not in vain but his love for the people echos throughout eternity. We would like to thank all of our customers who came out today, reserved tables and filled our wonderful place we share together. Happy Valentine's Day from our family to yours. 💖

A lot has happened in the past decade..from 2009 to 2019. Many of our dreams came true. We are grateful of what we learnt and thankful for what is ahead. What is Pho, especially from Saigon Maxim? PHO is made out of not only complex in it’s history but also how it’s been created, change and evolved from generation to generation. PHO is a special dish with all sorts of wonderful ingredients.The word Pho literally means “rice noodle soup” or "banh pho." These noodles are made with white rice flour and are purchased fresh from the market here in Calgary. While the word Pho indicates us to the noodle but the real aroma is in the broth. Pho bo (beef bones) or Pho ga (chicken bones) is made from a very lengthy, long process which requires 24 hours of simmering. In addition, the broths contain special ingredients that we cannot disclose due to our family secrets. The large bowl is served piping hot. The herbs and garnishes is what makes this dish very special. As of matter of fact here at Saigon Maxim, we created such dish for your enjoyment. If you cannot visit Vietnam, come visit us.
