The Nutcracker: A Holiday Circus
Cirque En L’air

Step into the magical world of The Nutcracker.

A twist on the classical ballet production, Cirque En L’air proudly presents its rendition of the timeless ballet featuring many talented aerialists and dancers.

We invite you to join Clara as she leaves her warm home and travels through the land of seasons and the land of sweets. With the nutcracker as her guide, Clara journeys through a dreamland to meet characters such as the Rat King, Sugarplum Fairy, the Snow Queen and Mother Ginger. Clara’s journey is highlighted by mesmerizing Aerial silks, Aerial straps, Aerial cube, hand-balancing acts and dancers.

Join us for a holiday celebration like no other and make Cirque En L’air your new holiday tradition!

🩰 Meet Miss Rachael (She/Her) 🩰

Starting her dance journey at the tender age of 3, Miss Rachael's love for dance bloomed early on. By the age of 6, she was already competing and dazzling audiences with her skills. Over the years she competed in a plethora of styles, including jazz, tap, ballet, pointe, musical theatre, song and dance, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, open, and self-choreography. She joined "The Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede" during high school, combining her singing and dancing abilities to captivate audiences. Later, she honed her skills as a professional dancer at Calaway Park. Driven by a desire to be a well-rounded performer and teacher, Miss Rachael continuously explores new styles, training in, Latin rhythms, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, and African dance through the University of Calgary at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks. She has also performed in a Bollywood dance group and danced in a musical theatre dance review. Since 2019, she has been a dedicated instructor at EnLair, where she shares her dance expertise with students, inspiring them to reach their fullest potential. Fearlessly embracing and training in acro, lyra and silks. This year Miss Rachael's choreography earned her an award at a recent competition. Miss Rachael has successfully directed the past two recitals and winter shows as recreation manager and is looking forward to her new role at the studio as Professional Division Manager. Beyond her dance accomplishments, Miss Rachael is a vocal powerhouse, having completed up to level 8 Royal Conservatory of Music exams, and singing professionally for weddings and corporate parties. She also holds a drama degree from the University of Calgary and is pursuing an education degree. She also acts professionally as an extra for TV shows and as a Disney princess, superhero, or supervillain for birthday parties.

Miss Rachael is excited to continue inspiring her students to dance and grow this upcoming year.

Introducing 🎪Miss Gabby Froese🎪!

Gabriella Froese is a Canadian dancer who trains in Acro, Jazz, Ballet, Aerial Silks, Lyra, and Lyrical. Dance has been apart of Gabriella’s life for 9 years. Gabriella’s an amazing tumbler, aerialist, and has practiced in RAD, Adapt, and a level pre pro 1 in acrobatic arts. Performing and competition has been apart of Gabriella Froese’s life for 7 years. Gabriella is a new teacher but has been a Teacher Assistant for 3 years and is very excited to work with everyone. Gabriella is very determined and insistent on having a safe environment where anyone can come and express their feelings through their movements. Gabriella is exhilarated for this upcoming dance season.

CREATIVE TOTS! - Week 3 we moved into ACTION! 👏

- We tumbled like a dragon 🐉
- We pretended to Train our Dragon (they really wanted to make sure the dragon wasn't hungry!)
They did a great job acting out teaching their dragon to fly, duck the clouds and dive into the sea!
- We made Minions and made our way through the Jungle in our Yoga adventure! 🌳

We can't believe we are in Week 4! this week we will head to the Amusement Park!

Meet Miss Arles Shipley (She/Her)

Born in Calgary, Arles began dancing at the age of 4 at a Calgary studio. During those years she achieved an expansive dance education in Ballet, Pointe,
Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Lyrical and Hip Hop. She has received exclusive training by experienced registered Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) teachers, preparing her to complete exams in Grades 1-8 and Vocational Syllabus. She extended her training to include
Advanced ADAPT Tap and Jazz.
Outside of training, Miss Arles has had the privilege to perform
with Alberta Dance Theatre and prepare her students to perform with the Canmore Canada Day
Parade and Disney Dance the Magic Show and Parade in California.

Arles is passionate about giving back to her community. She began teaching through her home studio’s Student Teacher Education Program (STEP), whereby she felt called to teach her love of dance to children. Since then, she has completed teaching certification and accreditation with Royal Academy of Dance, Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers and Acrobatic Arts. Embracing a philosophy of individualized and detailed technical training, complemented by a positive and fun learning environment, Arles prides herself on creating a supportive teaching space based on the principles of respect and inclusion. She is a trusted role model, offering young dancers mentorship, support and guidance.

Arles’ passion is to help students understand dance, and helps them connect and transfer their knowledge of Ballet into Jazz, Tap and other disciplines. She believes that teaching correct technique is important to students’ success, together with developing positive personal characteristics. She strives to promote self-awareness, self-confidence, resilience, mutual respect and positive relationships in her students, to help them develop healthy self-esteem and a strong sense of studio and community belonging.

Arles is looking forward to her 3rd year at En L’air Academy and teaching all our amazing dancers for the 2023/2024 dance season!

Meet Miss Chantelle (She-Her-Hers)!

Chantelle grew up in Cranbrook BC. There, she started dancing and fell in love with it. After
completing her Royal Academy of Dance exams, she attended summer intensives with Ballet Jorgen and Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She has competed twice in the BC Provincials as a ballet soloist. Currently, Chantelle is a dance teacher with multiple studios, and a collective member of two organizations: Ballet Bodies YYC and En Corps Dance Collective. Chantelle has a deep love for choreographing and teaching as well as performing herself. She wishes to teach and dance for as long as she can, inspiring those around her.

Introducing Kaitlyn Horrocks (She/Her)

Having started at a very young age as a competitive dancer, Kaitlyn spent many years of her life on stage performing. In her teen years, she was selected to dance with the Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede and during one performance, she spun in the air on a 360 degree harness, this performance triggered her passion for aerial arts. After that Stampede, she enrolled in the Calgary Circus Studio, and has been training on all sorts of aerial apparatus' since. She auditioned and was successful in earning a spot to attend a summer workshop at Ecole National de Cirque in Montreal which was an incredible experience. She has been teaching Aerial Arts for the last 3 years, as well as continuing to develop her own skills. She recently started performing in Aerial Arts with a few local gigs.

In April we welcomed our New Creative Tots Director Nikkie Ruud Ripka. She joins us with over 30 years of Early Childhood Education and Various Dance Discipline Education Experience.

Our Creative Tots Instructing Team are passionate about creating an experience for the Tots like no other. Their energy, kindness, warmth, giggles and desire to share their knowledge creates and environment where our 2-4 year olds thrive.

🎨Creativity, socialization, physical and mental development, self confidence and a whole lot of fun for the Tots is the goal all the instructors strive for.🤸‍♂️

This week brings the end of our Spring session and we can hardly wait to get going again in July! 👏
