On occasion, we're allowed to leave the shop and go for dinner in a real restaurant.

We checked out Sorella Trattoria. Find people you care about, make a reservationon OpenTable and order as much of the menu as you can eat.

Order a bottle of the Hayes Valley Chardonnay while you're at it, goes great with the béchamel croquettes with tomato jam and reggiano. Which is why we have it on our shelf. The wine, we mean.

Here’s a delicious and easy take on the Negroni, called the Cin-Cyn, that we’ve been enjoying.

Ingredients:

30ml/1-ounce gin

30ml/1-ounce semi-sweet red vermouth

30ml/1-ounce Cynar

Ice, for serving

For the garnish: Orange of your choice, we used Blood Orange.

Instructions:

Combine the gin, vermouth, and Cynar in a cocktail shaker/mixing glass.

Fill the shaker/glass with 1 handful ice and stir continuously for 30 seconds.

Do not shake.

Add ice to a lowball glass, strain drink into the glass.

Use a paring knife to remove a 1″ wide strip of the citrus peel. Squeeze the peel into the drink to release the oils. Gently run the peel around the edge of the glass, then place it in the glass and serve.
