And we made some chocolate bark.
More candles made today. Ava’s getting pretty good.
Making candles with Ava.
Here is the soap from my previous post after cutting. There is a hint of green and the fragrance is minty.
Snow day today, staying in.
Today I’m cutting the soap and stamping it with a snowflake stamp. I use the wood mount stamps that aren’t around much any more. I press the stamp into gold mica and tap it on the soap with a hammer.
Time to get busy, this a start.
Almost forgot to take pictures of these. So from my last post, these are some of the cut soaps.
Soap for the kids, and using up some embeds too:)) After I cut the bars I will stamp them with a Christmas stamp.
Ok so here we go, the swirl that almost never was. Looks minimal for sure.
So for tonight’s b***r move, I had the soap all fragranced and coloured and in the mold, decorated the top and then realized I forgot to do the hanger swirl. So I ran the hanger through it and redid the top. I have no idea what this is going to look like.
Ok so this didn’t turn out too bad, I like the scent blend of Lavender & Geranium.
Had not made soap in a while and was feeling a little rusty, but I think it’s going to be ok.
Most of the time when I’m making candles I end up with pieces of wick (after trimming) that are long enough for another shorter candle. Trimmed pieces of wick don’t have the tab on the bottom but you can go ahead a glue them into a container and use ‘em up.
At Superstore yesterday, snooping around like I do, and saw they have silicone heart molds for making the little hearts I have on this candle. You can make soap embeds or teenie bath bombs with them too.
Ok so I’ve added some wax berries and trimmed the wicks. The candle on the left is cran-raspberry and the one on the right is cranberry. You can see I’ve added a little ultra fine cosmetic glitter to the berries, a little is ok , a lot is not- might clog the wick.
These should be finished later today. The picture with the straw is so you can see how I place my wicks. I put a little hot glue on the wick tabs and press them on (in to?) to the jar with a straw. The picture with the box shows how you can insulate the candles if the room is cold while the wax is cooling. If the candles set too fast due to a cold environment the tops usually have a few craters.
I make my bath bombs in small batches, this is what I typically get from one batch. My star Mold is on its last legs, a few cracks here and there, but I manage to fill all three cavities twice and then make one more. Anyway what I wanted to show is how I keep them while they dry. I use parchment or waxed paper on an old cookie sheet. This goes on top of my upright freezer where it is warm and dry.
Another one of the candle holders I posted last week. I knew I wanted to put white coloured wax berries on top because of the white around the bottom. I had a wax melt that was white so I melted it and used my berry mold. Can you see the two greens in this candle? I liked the green that I filled the candle with but when I went to add the berries the green looked too bright. I melted some of the leftover wax and added a bit of red wax to darken it, then topped up the candle and placed the berries. I have just a tad of cosmetic glitter on the berries.
So I did go ahead and make plain candles in the red & green candle holders. The green one looks a little different because I remelted the top and it’s still a bit wet. These are fragranced with Apple Jack and as you can see I made a card to go with. The amount of wax I used you can see by the measuring cup was 2 cups. I filled one holder 3 times (if I was only filling 1 holder I would have used 1 and 1/2 for the amount of wax). Anyway that gave me just enough wax, I think next time I would add a little extra. Fragrance added was 2 tsp, that’s 1 tsp per unmelted cup of wax.
From Dollarama, these are candle holders but I will fill them with wax and make them into candles. I know the red and white containers will have plain soy wax with a spice type fragrance. The other three I’m not sure what I’ll do.
First Holiday Soaps of the year, messing around with eye shadow.
So I decided to try two colours this time, I’m hoping the red doesn’t bleed, well it will when they’re lit but that will be ok.
So I took one of the candles I made last week and added a bit of colour with some purple mica, cause I wanted it to kinda go with a wedding card. This is for a friend in the US, hoping I can mail it :))
So later that night...... I did add some gold pearlizer (same as gold mica), that you can’t really see here, and a small dab of cosmetic glitter to the berries. Now they are finished :)))
I started out with a 2 tone container, I think its a large votive holder but filling it with bright pink wax cancelled out the blue bottom. These colours are inspired by all the pink and red dresses I saw watching a recent awards show. I am going to brush on some gold pearlizer to make them more Xmasy!
Yup, I am behind on making gifts for sure. These melt and pour soaps are done with precoloured Purple and Lime Green. Easy!
Picked up a silicone snowflake mold at the dollar store and that was my inspiration to get started on some Xmas candles. Thanks Leslie for the Blue and White tea cups!
I kept the candle with the piping for myself because I wanted to see how it would burn. It looked pretty nice even while the piped wax and embeds were melting. I am going to try this again and hopefully get better at it.
