For National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, we’re excited to continue supporting the immensely impactful Mémiyelhtel, a Chilliwack-based Indigenous Youth Mentorship Program. youth.in.stolo

This year we’re excited to highlight an art exhibit presented by Mémiyelhtel on display at the Burnaby Brentwood mall. The youth, young adults and Elders who are represented in this exhibit continue to face adversity. The artwork has distinct symbolism inspired by each individual's journey and gifts. Although they have inherited the traumas of the past, they have also inherited the strength of their ancestors and persevered. We celebrate their resilience.

To emphasize some words from the exhibit: “There is no reconciliation before there is truth. The truth is, our young people are still directly impacted by Canada's colonial history, the legacies of residential schools and ongoing systemic racism. We challenge you to be intentional and conscious about observing Truth and Reconciliation Day and extending learning and support beyond wearing an orange shirt. By learning of the truths and investing in reconciliation work in your personal realms, the impacts ripple into the greater community. We encourage everyone to practice active allyship, not just as Truth and Reconciliation Day approaches, but everyday.”
