As someone who has personally dealt with the terror of having a loved one first suffer an agonizing 12 days at home, then hospitalized for 9 more days with Covid, still suffering from the effects myself 5 months post illness, let alone the hundreds of other stories we’ve heard from clients over the last 18 months of the varying degrees of their illness & yes, tragically some deaths… you can imagine the research I’ve been doing to make sure in my business, we’re doing everything we possibly can to protect each other from having to deal with this horrible virus.

It’s in doing this reading & sorting of fact from fiction that I’ve come to the realization that we really need to insist on masks being worn in our space again by one and all. What I’ve just been learning about…

This CDC report. Last night, the Washington Post and The New York Times leaked details about an internal CDC report on the delta variant. It's not good.

We already knew delta – the COVID-19 variant first identified in India – is more contagious and can cause more severe illness than other known variants. But this internal report hits home just how grim the situation is.

The report apparently urged the CDC to "acknowledge the war has changed." And played a key role in the CDC's decision to bring back mask guidelines earlier this week.
• The details: The report apparently says the variant can produce 10 times the amount of virus in people's airways as the one first ID'd in the UK. In other words: it's as contagious as chickenpox. And more contagious than the viruses behind MERS, SARS, Ebola, the 1918 flu, and smallpox.
• But wait, it gets worse: Vaccinated people who get breakthrough infections – an estimated tens of thousands of people in the US each week – may spread delta as easily as unvaccinated people. Keep in mind though: studies show they're less likely than the unvaccinated to get infections in the first place. Or to get severely ill or die.
• More to come: The CDC is expected to give more info on the delta variant later today*

Now, I know how my loved one & I suffered, in so much pain & struggling to breathe (I’ll spare you the other details), with the original variant… I do NOT want to take on the delta variant, nor do I want anyone else I care about to. It truly is a battle that, when you’re sick with it after 14 days, you’re not sure at times, you’ll win…

As disappointing as it is to wear masks again (we were SO hoping to be able to rip them off & burn them) I hope you’ll respect the time & care it’s taken to come to this decision to enforce it once again & look at it like we do - we care enough about each other, our families & our clientele to worry about this & think this through all. the. time.
