Chilliwack Garden Club

Wonderful tour of Karlie’s garden yesterday! It’s inspirational to see what she has accomplished in this rocky, exposed location at the top of Chilliwack Mountain. So many pots and so much color, and the most amazing views across the valley!

First time finding a praying mantis in my garden. What an amazing creature! We brought it a grasshopper and it pounced on it and devoured it.

Tomorrow Friday August 2 is the deadline for veggies, fruit and floral for the Chilliwack Fair. Get your entries in, especially for our challenge. I'm finding it hard to judge what will be ready by next week so I'm putting lots of entries in and hoping for the best. I hope this sunflower will make it.

Sharing my photos from yesterday’s open garden too! I’d never been out to Cheam wetlands and Bill and Tulia’s property has an amazing view. All of us loved all the huge rocks that were found on the property and which Bill has managed to strategically place throughout the gardens. Another wonderful outing!

I'm still on a high from the beauty that is your garden. You have used rock sculptures to create a wow factor. Thank you Tulia & Bill for inviting the Chilliwack Garden Club. I'm so grateful to see such an amazing garden.

Some photos from Willa’s garden party on Thursday. So many neat and very flourishing plants and such a transformation from a completely bare lot 4 or 5 years ago! Lovely to sit in the shade of a paper bark birch and watch and listen to the waterfall.

Many thanks to Trish for hosting an open garden for us after our picnic last night! It’s amazing what you can grow by effective use of a small space. Love the rebar sculpture!

So excited to finally get some garlic scapes...that means that a garlic bulb harvest is not far away!
I save some of the garlic cloves for planting the following year and leave the rest of the spinach to go to seed so I don't have to buy more. Also the Egyptian walking onions are perennial so this makes gardening more cost effective and sustainable

I'm finding this heat so tiring and not getting much done except wandering about mindlessly. Lots of nice stuff in bloom though. The last pic is extra things for sharing at the picnic on Wednesday Eve.

Fascinating talk on pollinators and in particular the various types of bees in BC by Dr Elizabeth Elle from Simon Fraser University. I think we’ll all be looking at them differently now! Lots of good information about the plants preferred by each species, and how long and where they live.
The arrangements on our show bench were especially gorgeous tonight!
