26 year old Sam. So close to birthing my first baby, so excited, so nervous, so clueless, and so well rested 😜

I remember in my first pregnancy I looked at taking a prenatal class but with so many people telling me not to even bother because it "all goes out the window" once you enter the hospital, I thought it was a waste of money. That was pretty much the end of my research surrounding my birth.

Then it actually happened and I hated the feeling of not understanding what was happening. I hated feeling completely under the power of my medical team. I couldn't understand how I let it happen that I didn't prepare when I over prepare for practically every other thing in my life. Why did I not give my most important day, the birth of my first baby, the same care and attention.

In my second pregnancy, I took that prenatal class. I was the only second timer there. I'll bet you don't know many people who took a prenatal class in their second pregnancy! I learned so much, I really dug deep and figured out what was actually important to me. And guess what, when it came time to birth, it didn't all go out the window.

What I realized was:
1. Where you take your prenatal class makes a difference
2. That you can't just take a class from a hospital or a nurse to learn the basics, that you had to go deeper
3. That being able to feel confident in standing in your truth, speaking your choice and connecting with your intuition can be greatly affected by those who educate you along the way

Now, with my doula bestie , we get to do just that for families. I know we aren't a typical birth class. I know our clients not only learn so much about birth, about our system, and most importantly, about themselves.
