PEI Pelvic & Breast Health
Prince Edward Island's first physiotherapy clinic dedicated to pelvic and breast health.
It was a pleasure to be a sponsor of the .npa Nurse Practitioner Conference for the 3rd year in a row.
What an amazing group of individuals. We are so fortunate to have so many NPs practicing on our little island.
Reminder šØ
For those of you who are planning to start treatment during the summer months (birth prep for fall due dates, teachers wanting to start during break, etc.) we suggest that you call now to get booked in.
arenburg.pt and I will be taking some holidays and reducing our hours over the summer months. We want to ensure that everyone is seen in a timely manner!
We do not keep āurgentā spaces in our schedule over the summer months, so it is sometimes more challenging to get in off of the waitlist. The best bet is to book your summer assessment now, ensuring you will be seen.
We look forward to helping you all, and then bumping in to you on the beautiful island beaches š šļø
Why do we give strength and balance exercises for a leaky bladder š¦
A 2019 pilot study found that women with poor single leg stance times, poor balance confidence scores, and slower gait speeds were significantly more likely to have urinary incontinence.
Itās NOT all about kegals!
2023 at PEIPBH with Paige and Rebecca
- over a dozen continued education courses/webinars
- successfully fit dozens of individuals with pessaries
- numerous donations to different community organizations and causes
- introduced breast cancer rehabilitation
- started offering online booking options
- assessed and treated over 800 people from 3 days to 90 years of age
We are so proud of the work that we have done. We look forward to continuing being the best that we can for those of you who need our assistance.
Here is to another year of helping those who walk through our doors and the community that surrounds us. š
Letās talk about heaviness sensation and lifting.
The feeling of va**nal heaviness may be a symptom of having a pelvic organ prolapse (POP). It may also just be a symptom, not dysfunction.
Having POP does not mean we have to stop physical activity. In fact, being physically active is an important part of treating POP.
Working with a pelvic floor physiotherapist is an important piece of the puzzle, but not the only piece. A personal trainer with education working with this population is another piece. Adding load to your routine is important, and having a confident provider can help you focus on your improvement, and avoid fixation on your symptoms.
There are many reasons you may feel heaviness during a workout that may have nothing to do with POP. You may have a full re**um, you may be close to menstruating, or you may be unintentionally āclenchingā your pelvic floor which can often feel similar to fullness in the va**na.
Heaviness is not a red flag. It is a symptom. Listening to your body is important, but fixating can be limiting.
If you are noticing heaviness with your activities, it is a good idea to have an assessment from a PFPT. Not to cause you fear, but to give you the confidence to keep moving!
At PEIPBH we are firm believers that the best practitioners are the ones that value continued education and stay on top of current literature. Here is a summery of the courses .arenburg.pt and I have completed so far in 2023 alone.

I need to share a little small business love!
Back in June, .arenburg.pt and I attended The Lady Ball, fundraiser.
I won an amazing stay at in the silent auction and my family and I finally made the time to spend a night there this weekend.
First and foremost, thank you to for donating to . Secondly, holy smokes! What a beautiful place to unplug and spend time with each other! Doug and I wanted the kids to experience this with us, and we are so glad they were there. We watched the stars next to the campfire, and then watched the sun rise over the West River the next morning.
If you are looking for a place to unplug and recharge (see what I did there š) this is a great option!
Day 1 of the Maritime Pelvic Health Conference.
Quote of the day goes to Dr Paul Yaffe (colorectal surgeon): āI have hemorrhoids, you have Hemorrhoids, we all have Hemorrhoidsā

Menopauseā¦
A large portion of the population .arenburg.pt and I serve is peri and post menopausal women. As pelvic health physiotherapists, there are a lot of things we do to help these individuals navigate these waters.
When asked what the most important and impactful thing that women can do for their health during these years is, we would say *drum roll* PHYSICAL ACTIVITY!
It can be at home, with a friend, a personal trainer, a sport, or a community group. Physical activity will look different for each person. But we do highly encourage aerobic and STRENGTH training!
The benefits far surpass any other individual treatment. Benefits can include bone density protection, prevention of muscle loss, mood improvement, improved sleep, reduction in high blood pressure, and reduction of type 2 diabetes risk.
Let these be a motivator to check out a class at your community hall, speak to a personal trainer, talk to your pelvic floor physiotherapist, or go for a walk with a friend. š¤
Rebecca and I decided today was a good day to share a little more about ourselves, outside of the clinic.
Iām Paige, the face behind this account, and these are my favourite people. I absolutely love what I do for a living and I love advocating for the health of islanders.
My confession is that I pretend to be a professional all day, but when I get back to our rural PEI home, I live in rubber boots and denim. Iām a gardener and crazy chicken lady. Iāve trained my dogs to not eat my chickens, and Iām training my chickens to ride a bike with meā¦ yes, Iām that person š
Did you know we have interests other than pelvic health?! š¤Ŗ Rebecca has always had an interest in DIY projects and loves to ārefreshā older furniture to display in her home. She created this art piece to display at the clinic.
This is your friendly reminder to book your appointments if you are due between now and January.
If you are pregnant and experiencing pain, call us and .arenburg.pt or myself will see you ASAP.
Did you know that we offer pessary fitting and cleaning services?
We also keep pessaries for incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse in stock. If we donāt have your size, we can order it for you š¤
A slightly better photo of the three of us, very excited to find the cookies that .food.truck put in our lunch bag!
Iām out of the office until Monday!
In case you didnāt know, itās Charlottetown Race Week and Iām finally getting back in to my favourite sport, sailing!
With my handsome crew of Dougs (my dad and husband) and our lunches provided by .food.truck
Wish us luck!
We have officially launched online booking through our website (link in profile)
If you know the lowdown on pelvic health PT and want to book an assessment or follow up appointment you can do that by calling 902-370-2137 or by following the link on our website!
If you have questions or concerns about booking, we suggest calling so that our wonderful admin can help answer your questions and get you booked.
We also only offer booking for babies, children, breasts, and 30 minute follow ups through our admin.
Update:
We have always had a 48 hour cancellation/rescheduling charge of 50% of your appointment fee. Every client consents to this on their intake waiver.
However, we have never actually charged anyone. Unfortunately, we have been having far too many last minute calls to reschedule only hours before. We pride ourselves on booking 40 or 60 minute appointments with individuals. When someone leaves a gap in our schedule that last minute, it is impossible for us to fill, even with a waitlist.
As of today we will be implementing the long standing 48 hour cancellation/rescheduling fee of 50%.
Of course, there will always be some exceptions.
Thank you
Paige and Rebecca
PEI was represented at the International Childrenās Continence Society Conference this weekend.
Pediatric urologists, urotherapists, pediatricians, psychologists, and pelvic floor physios from around the world were in attendance.
Did you know that myself at PEIPBH and Blythe Martin in Summerside both treat pediatric pelvic health conditions?
I completely missed the 2 year birthday of PEIPBH!
Winter/spring 2021 was a wild ride. I was back to work part time when my littlest was four months old. I was leaning on for my website and logo design, patiently did our first photos for the website while I had my daughter on my hip, and Angela of was the most supportive mentor I could have asked for.
When I was officially operating under the name PEI Pelvic and Breast Health Inc my husband had taken paternity leave to ensure I had the support at home to make it all happen.
I was overwhelmed by the need from the community in that first year and was so fortunate to have .arenburg.pt dive in head first with me in the fall of 2022.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. I am so lucky to wake up each day and make a meaningful impact in other peopleās lives.
š
It has been a busy week!
Today .arenburg.pt is holding down the fort in Cornwall while I take part in the Annual PEI Nurse Practitioner Conference.
Rebecca and I just finished up our third workshop with the QEH Obstetrics team.
We are so fortunate to have two hospitals on our little island that offer exceptional care.
In these sessions we were able to connect with the entire L&D team and educate on our scope of practice and how we can collaborate to make pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum easier on everyone involved. We also got to learn from them and their experiences. This will help improve our āPrepare for Birthā education.
Thank you to those involved. Collaboration truly is the best recipe for quality patient care.
