Life outside of Simply Rewritten has been busy over the last couple of years. I am still doing the odd custom piece as time allows; however, balancing work, life, business and family has been a challenge. I need to step away from retailing. I am unable to keep up with the demands and the requirements therefore, as of December 31st, 2023 Simply Rewritten, will no longer be retailing products from The FAT Pain’t Company. I will continue to sell my remaining stock until inventory is cleared out. This includes all products from the FAT Paint Company as well as Brushes and Stencils. I will no longer be placing any paint orders and will be selling the remaining stock.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. We spent most of 2022 doing a full home renovation and I’m just slowly getting back into it. Trying to get through my own stock on top of the catching up with custom client pieces. I no longer have my staging area in my home and haven’t had the time to make a space in the garage this winter. Hopefully late spring it will be ready; so for now the odd piece will be posted from my living area.

Here’s a coffee table set I’ve had for years sitting in my “to be refinished pile”. I finally got around to them. Made from solid wood these beautiful veneered tops were stripped and stained in chestnut to bring out the natural red tones of this wood grain and the bases were painted in Raven by the FAT Paint Company and sealed with semi gloss water based clear coat.

Measurements are: 24”Wx28”Dx21”H (end table)
51 3/4”Wx29 3/34”Dx18 1/4”H (coffee table)

My boyfriend and I have amalgamated and we need to get rid of a few things. This table set being one of them. It’s in pretty good condition as is. The table top has a glass that comes with it and has always been on. Not a scratch on the top. Chair seats could be refinished to match if you’re up for the job or left as is. Solid wood table set in a cream finish and warm walnut colored stained top.

Measurements are 36”Wx60”Lx30”H. Includes. Table, 4 chairs and a bench.

I haven't posted much over the last few months. I've got a major renovation underway at home and just haven't had the time or space to work on much. Bombay Chest - $595.

I've had this Bombay chest, which is solid oak, stored in my garage for some time now. I finally decided to pull her out and paint her using a blending/ombre technique. I used three colors to achieve this look. Dove White, Pewter and Elefante. The body was sealed with clear wax and the top with a water-based top coat for added durability. The hardware was updated with silver tremclad spray paint and black glaze.

Here is my most recent custom piece. This one was a combination of restoration and rejuvenation. The top, legs and drawer was stripped, sanded and re-stained to match the existing color and the remainder of the piece was freshened up with some Howards Restore A Finish in Golden Oak. The new stain was sealed with several coats if Minwax Rub on Poly for depth and protection.

I haven’t posted in a while so thought I’d upload a few “in progress” photos of my current custom piece. It was well dowelled and glued so taking it apart to properly strip, sand and stain a different color were not an option. My client agreed to stick with a color match. This allowed me to sand and tend to the areas that needed new stain while preserving other areas like the slats and shelves that only needed some Howard’s Restore A Finish to bring back the original luster.

Here are a few pictures. Over the next few days the poly will be applied and ready to take home!

Available for purchase is this beautiful, solid oak, pedestal table was restored and given a "Restoration Hardware" makeover using General Finishes Greystone Water-based stain and sealed with several coats of Minwax Rub on Poly.

Dimensions are: 39"Wx30.25"H. There is no leaf and at 39"W is the perfect size for that nook, breakfast area, or small condo/apt.

Here is that ottoman again....we decided to add a touch of warmth to the black wax by adding some patina wax. I like this finish even more now.

Do you own one of these? I think we all did at one point. My client saw the potential in this piece and picked it up at a thrift store for next to nothing! I recently redid a leather ottoman and she loved it so much she wanted me to recreate that similar look with her faux leather ottoman.

This little wooden table was given a fresh look with Cast Iron Chalk Paint by the FAT Paint Company with a wash of Raven (Black) to give it more depth. It was sealed with Crystal Clear Top Coat.

I can’t believe I forgot to post this piece. This piece was refinished earlier this year. It was a keeper! I wanted to give this solid wood ottoman, with tufted Italian leather, a “Restoration Hardware” makeover. The leather was painted with a mix or parchment and jute chalk paint then distressed and sealed with a combination of brown and black beeswax. The base was painted in coconut and lightly washed with chocolate. To give it more depth I wiped on general finishes gel stain in Carbon Grey then with a chip brush created wood grain strokes using dark walnut stain. This gave it that natural finish without having to completely strip the wood and start from scratch. The body was then sealed with a few coats of Minwax Rub on Poly.

I picked up this media console for myself. I liked the simplicity of the piece, but it was just too dark. I lightened it up with a custom mix of Jute, Pewter and a bit of Warm white chalk paint from the FAT Paint Company and sealed it with several coats of crystal water based clear coat.

These French Provincial Bombay bedside tables were given a classy update in a white. This custom mix of Warm White and Dove White give them a bright and crisp look. They were sealed with several coats of water based clearcoat in satin for protection.

I finally had the time to get something done for ourselves. This hand carved pine chest from the sixties was beautiful to begin with but the dark brown was too one dimensional. I used Blue Slate, Skyline, & Jute as the base and Parchment and Warm White for the highlights. I then applied the wax alternating between the black and brown, to create the additional character and protection.

I thought for a second that this table top was unsalvageable but after a few passes of stripper I was able to get a better idea as to how deep the scratch marks were. I was relieved to see that the wood veneer was in almost perfect condition. My client wanted the red in the wood toned down quite a bit so we went with an ebony finish for the top and a grey for the apron and base.

That's it folks. My custom painted pieces for the 2021 year are now complete! These mid century chairs were freshened up with new upholstery provided by the client and black paint from the FAT Paint Company called Raven.

This custom piece is a family heirloom and my client wanted it restored to it's natural beauty. Layers of white latex paint was stripped off to reveal this beautiful wood. It was sanded smooth and left in it's natural wood color. I used Minwax Rub on Poly, which has an amber finish, to enhance the wood gain.
