Ontario Power Generation (OPG) recently hosted two virtual workshops with Scientists in School (SIS) at the Saunders Hydro Dam Visitors Centre. Each workshop offered unique insights into scientific exploration and discovery.
In the captivating Magical Science workshop held on July 3, enthusiastic young minds explored various scientific marvels. They began by experimenting with static electricity using everyday items, observing how materials interact differently. Moving on to mirrors, the children discovered principles of reflection and created optical illusions. They concluded with an exploration of water's properties, experimenting with different substances to observe color changes.
In the Discovery Zone Workshop on July 11, eager children delved into biomimicry through the structural design of trees. Activities included simulating tree trunks and studying seed protection mechanisms in pinecones. They also conducted chromatography experiments to explore chemical behavior and examined the Mobius loop's unique properties.
These workshops sparked curiosity and helped fostered deeper appreciation for science through hands-on learning and interdisciplinary connections.
