Sthira and Sukha: Steadiness and Ease



“Rhythm is essential to life, moment by moment. The earth circles the sun in a stately rhythm. The tides rise and fall, and the cells of all living beings resonate with the tempo set by nature. The lungs and the heart work rhythmically, the intestines produce peristaltic waves, and the brain generates brain waves, all of which are intricately interrelated with one another and with the external environment.”



The human experience guarantees the ebbs and flows of life. That’s obvi, hey? You’re feeling it too? Enjoy it. In everything that you do, even when the going gets tough - bring strength and ease to it. The ebbs will not last forever. Everything is temporary and we are all tourists here. Never take life to srsly. I have to remind myself of that allllll the time. Shake your b***y. Hug a friend. Give love.

What is your why?
What’s your driving force?


Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the action and the doing of living that I lose touch of what fuels ma soul. That’s normal. It’s human. But a reminder of my “why” is necessary to fill my inspiration tank when it’s feeling defeated and depleted. With the cancelling of classes, and restrictions continued - I needed to remind myself.

I remember my first ever yoga class. I was 17. Depressed, alcoholic, and so damn lost. Imagine a thought bubble 💭 containing the most overwhelming scribble. That’s what I was carrying with me onto the mat. Throughout the class I started to surrender, move, and feel PRESENT for the first time in a while. Somehow I unraveled the scribble going on in my head, and felt entirely HOME again. It was such a high. I stepped out of that class and exhaled “what WAS that!?” How? And why did I feel so good?

Cut to years later of study and practice - I started teaching. I have witnessed many students unravelling their own scribbles that were overwhelming them. They step into their bodies and they started to come home again too. To see that “aha!” moment in their eyes, to see their energy shift, and their knowing that everything is going to be okay. We are all just a bunch of mammals that can get so far removed from the utilization of our own energetic tools. I joke that yoga solves all my problems. But it kinda does. My “why” is to offer the opportunity to come back home.
