Hello Nova Scotia, itโs Mental Health Awareness Week, and thereโs something really important we need to talk about: Itโs totally okay to not be okay. ๐ฟ Life throws curves at all of us, and feeling a bit off sometimes is perfectly normal.
Why not use this week to really connect with each other? Drop a message to someone you care about, share a coffee, or just hang out. Small things can mean so much. ๐ค
Remember, showing that youโre not always strong isnโt a sign of weaknessโitโs brave. It tells others theyโre not alone in this. So letโs open up, reach out, and support one another. Every little bit of kindness helps, and your effort to connect could be just the lift someone needs today.
Mental Health Awareness Week is here, and this yearโs theme is . At Wholetherapy, we deeply believe in the power of connectionโconnecting with others and with ourselves as a way to support mental health.
We all need a little help sometimes, and thereโs no better time to reach out. If youโre thinking about taking steps toward better mental health, weโre here to support you. Weโre offering a complimentary 15-minute consultation with one of our therapists. Itโs a no-pressure way for you to see how talking can help.
Ready to take that step? Visit our website to book your free consultation today. Remember, reaching out is a strength, and weโre here to connect.

At Wholetherapy, our approach to healing trauma is deeply rooted in understanding the different 'parts' of our personalities. These parts can sometimes conflict or become imbalanced due to life's challenges, especially during traumatic events. To address this, we utilize several effective models of parts work: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Structural Dissociation Theory, and Ego State Theory.
What is Parts Work?
Parts work is a transformative approach that views your personality as composed of various 'parts' or sub-personalities, each with unique motivations and emotions. This perspective helps in understanding how different parts of us interact and sometimes conflict.
The Models We Use:
Internal Family Systems (IFS): This model encourages individuals to lead from their 'Self'โa core of compassion, curiosity, and calmness. The Self helps harmonize all other parts, which might include vulnerable 'exiles', protective 'managers', and reactive 'firefighters'.
Structural Dissociation Theory: This approach explores how personality parts separate in response to trauma, leading to primary and apparently normal parts of the personality which handle daily functioning, and emotional parts that remain stuck in traumatic responses.
Ego State Theory: Similar to IFS, this theory identifies various states or parts of the self, each conditioned by different life experiences. Therapy involves communication between these states to foster healing.
Our Non-Pathologizing Approach:
When engaging in parts work, we adopt a non-pathologizing stance. This means we view all thoughts, behaviors, and emotions as having an underlying purpose, even if they appear disruptive. Our goal is not to eliminate parts but to understand and integrate them, promoting a healthy dialogue within oneself.
Benefits of Parts Work:
Holistic Understanding: Gain a comprehensive view of your inner dynamics.
Trauma Healing: Address and heal parts of yourself that are stuck in past trauma.
Improved Relationships: Reduce projections in your relationships, increasing empathy and understanding.
Accessing the 'Self': Learn to lead from a place of strength and clarity.
Parts work can be a powerful tool in therapy, helping individuals navigate their internal worlds and achieve a balanced, more fulfilling life. If youโre curious to learn more about how parts work can help you or someone you know, reach out to us at Wholetherapy. We're here to support your journey towards a healthier, integrated self.

Wholetherapy introduces ISTDP, a unique therapy blending deep emotional insight with physical awareness to combat anxiety, depression, and more. It's evidence-based, digging into the core of mental health issues.
Why ISTDP? It goes beyond surface symptoms to explore the hidden emotional drivers and physical sensations tied to our well-being. This approach uncovers insights into implicit memories and unconscious processes, crucial in shaping our reactions and behaviors in challenging times.
ISTDP stands out by actively involving you in uncovering and understanding these underlying patterns. The goal? To transform unhealthy emotional cycles into healthier, more adaptive ones.
Our therapy sessions are dynamic yet tailored, fostering a partnership between you and your therapist. Together, you'll navigate the complex interplay of emotions and physical responses, working towards emotional regulation and healing.
As part of our trauma-informed care, ISTDP complements our holistic approach to wellness. We recognize healing as a multi-stage journeyโbuilding safety, processing the past, and integrating experiences for a brighter future.

โ
Increases Resilience: Building a repertoire of coping strategies in anticipation of triggers strengthens emotional resilience, enabling individuals to face future challenges with greater confidence and equanimity.
โ
Encourages a Proactive Approach to Healing: Adopting a proactive stance towards managing triggers signifies an active engagement in one's healing journey. This mindset shift from a reactive to a proactive approach is instrumental in achieving lasting emotional well-being.
