Modu-Loc Fence Rentals
Temporary rental fence solutions for construction and special events. Professional and dependable ser
This past weekend, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation held their annual Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer TOR event. We’re proud to have worked with this event for the past several years as the temporary fence supplier. This is one of our favourite projects to work on, due to the scale of the event and the complex configuration of the fence. We set up our fencing and concrete block ballast system around the perimeter of the event site, and created multiple rinks within the site to host teams playing in the tournament. The installation took place over several days and was led by our veteran event lead, Skippy!
The funds raised through Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer go towards personalized cancer medicine, research, treatment advances, education, and new standards of care at The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Ontario, and around the world.
Thank you to our crews for their hard work on this important fundraising event!
When it comes to fence rental, you might be surprised to learn that there is more than one type of temporary fencing. In fact, there are a lot of temporary fencing options on the market – and it can be hard to choose the right solution for your specific needs and requirements.
1️⃣ Our standard temporary fence panels are professionally engineered for strength and durability to provide the highest level of security in the rental fence industry. Constructed with steel and heavy gauge welded wire mesh, these panels are built to last.
2️⃣ Our premium black fence panels feature a vertical picket design link together to create a fencing system that effectively manages the access and flow of attendees at special events. These high-end crowd control barriers are made of black powder-coated steel, and provide an attractive solution for crowd control.
3️⃣ Our pickup panels are ideal for customers who want to own their fence but have limited storage and transport capabilities. At only 47″ wide, pickup panels are designed to fit in the back of a pickup truck or utility van – no trailer required!
Honourable Mentions:
⭐ White Picket fence is the perfect temporary fencing solution for crowd control and décor at high-end events.
⭐ Stage Barricade is an attractive and effective barrier for containing large crowds at the outskirts of a stage or any other area where access must be restricted.
Today our Toronto depot held a BBQ to celebrate the end of another busy summer season. This is just one of the many ways we like to show our employees how much we appreciate them. Whether they are working out in the field installing fence, or working behind the scenes in our offices across the country, we want our employees to know that without them, Modu-Loc would not be the best temporary fence company in Canada! 💪
We hope everyone enjoyed this well-deserved break after a busy summer season!
The Toronto International Film Festival just wrapped up its 48th edition this past weekend. The festival was held from September 7 to 17, 2023.
Every year, Modu-Loc has the pleasure of providing fence for the event that takes place across the city at various screening venues. Our black VIP fence lines the red carpets for the film makers and actors as well as the fan zones.
TIFF is a not-for-profit cultural organization with a mission to transform the way people see the world through film. It is dedicated to presenting the best of international and Canadian cinema and creating transformational experiences for film lovers and creators of all ages and backgrounds.
Our crews have been working tirelessly over the past few weeks installing and realigning temporary fencing in preparation for everyone’s favourite end of summer event, the Canadian National Exhibition! This year’s edition of the CNE (or “the Ex”, as it’s affectionately known) opened on Friday, August 18th and it features some wild and out-of-this-world foods, classic carnival games and thrilling midway rides. The Ex is open until Labour Day - get your tickets and “Let’s Go to The Ex!”
Last Friday, Vancouver Island branch supervisor Wesley Howerton and Western Canada Sales Manager Jeff Block attended their first VICA golf tournament. 🏌️ Modu-Loc sponsored a Hosted Hole at this year’s sold-out event, which was held in the Nanaimo region. Wes was out at Fairwinds Golf Club mixing and mingling with other VICA members and helping to grow our temporary fence division. We want to thank Vancouver Island Construction Association and all its members for a memorable day, and look forward to linking up again next year! ⛳
It was “all aboard” the Yankee Lady III for yesterday’s Toronto Construction Association Boat Cruise! Building on the popularity of the annual Young Construction Leaders boat cruise, TCA has introduced this summer event as an opportunity for all members (not just the YCL group) to get together and network. Team member Joanna Bieda was in attendance and enjoyed the many food stations and stunning Toronto skyline. We hope this event is here to stay, and we look forward to seeing you all out on the water next year! Thank you TCA for another stellar event!
Please note that our branches in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario will be closed today in observance of Heritage Day (AB), British Columbia Day (BC), and Civic Holiday (ON). We wish all of our employees and customers in these provinces a safe and relaxing holiday! 😊
Welcome back from Quebec construction holiday! We're ready to service your next project! Call or visit our website at https://moduloc.ca/fr/ for your next quote. 🙂
PART 2 - Organizing an event or planning a construction project? To help you stick to your budget, we’re back with more simple ways to save money on your fence rental!
✔️ Make Use of Your Surroundings
Because your rental bill will be determined by a price per linear foot of fence, reducing the amount of fence you need will reduce your costs. If your site has existing fence or other permanent structures, consider using them as part of your perimeter to reduce the amount of temporary fencing required.
✔️ Buy Your Fence Instead of Renting
If you rent fence frequently – especially in small quantities – you might consider investing in your own temporary fencing system. Small orders are typically subject to minimum charges on the delivery and even the rental, so if you regularly rent fence then buying might be more cost-effective.
✔️ Bonus Tip: Negotiate Your Missing/Damaged Charges
Just about every temporary fence rental company will charge for product that goes missing or is damaged while on site. These charges will vary by supplier, and may not be clearly indicated up front – so it’s always a good idea to ask what the rate is for missing and damaged fence panels.

PART 1 - Whether you’re organizing an event or planning a construction project, temporary fence rental is just one line item on your budget. With budgets only getting tighter nowadays, you might be looking for ways to cut costs. Thankfully, there are some simple ways that you can save money on your fence rental.
✔️ Schedule Installation and Removal During Business Hours
A simple schedule shift can instantly reduce your fence rental quote. Most temporary fence rental companies will add a surcharge for deliveries or removals made outside of regular business hours – like evenings, weekends or holidays.
✔️ Install the Temporary Fencing Yourself
Labour related to fence installation and removal can make up a big chunk of your bill, so installing your own temporary fencing is a sure-fire way to save on your fence rental.
✔️ Pick Up Your Own Temporary Fencing
If you’ve decided to handle the fence installation yourself, you can further reduce costs by picking up the fence panels instead of having them delivered. This allows you to avoid delivery charges, and is an especially good way to save on your fence rental bill if you only need a small quantity of fence.

We are very excited to announce our sponsorship of this year’s Vancouver Island Construction Association Golf Tournament in the Nanaimo region. ⛳ Modu-Loc will be sponsoring a Hosted Hole at this year’s sold-out event, and we couldn’t be more excited to get out there and network with like-minded construction leaders from the island. Our Duncan branch supervisor, Wesley Howerton, will be out on the greens ready to mix and mingle. We hope to see you out there on August 11th! 🏌️
For a seventh year, the Association des constructeurs de routes et grands travaux du Québec -ACRGTQ hosted their annual cycling circuit and golf tournament. Our Quebec Sales Representative, Eric Dion, spent a beautiful day hitting the links at yesterday’s ACRGTQ Cyclo-Golf Tournoi. Accompanying him in his foursome were representatives from both GE and Constructo. The day wrapped up with a cocktail reception and dinner, where attendees enjoyed some delicious food and delightful networking. Thanks to ACRGTQ for organizing another fantastic event - we look forward to the next one!
Today we’re continuing our list of the top things event organizers forget when planning their temporary fencing. While these are things we often see in the temporary fence business, they’re great tips for dealing with any event vendor or supplier!
✔️ Scheduling - Knowing when to schedule your temporary fence supplier among all your other vendors can be a bit of a science. For security reasons, fence is often one of the first things to be set up. But sometimes, enclosing the site can make it more difficult for other overlay vendors to perform their work - like installing a huge stage. This can lead to unnecessary wait times and delays. Factor fence installation time into your schedule (a good rule of thumb is that a 2-person crew can install about 300 feet of fence every hour), and work with your temporary fence supplier to determine where they should fit into the event set-up plan. At Modu-Loc, we’re able to build extra-wide gates to accommodate other vendors loading in equipment.
✔️ Communication - Anyone working in the events industry knows that even the best-laid plans can go awry. Event organizing is often an exercise in problem-solving, but it’s important to keep your fence supplier in the loop when changes need to be made to the site map. This can impact how much fence is needed and even how it is installed, so keep your fence supplier apprised of any changes - ideally, before they get to site!

With the events season in full swing and calendars filling up, it can seem like there is a new event in production every day. Sometimes, mistakes can be made or steps can be forgotten. As a vendor who is usually the first on site and last one out, we thought we’d share a few of the top things event planners might forget when it comes to their temporary fencing:
✔️ Triangle bracing - We use v-bracing to stabilize long, straight lines of fence and reduce the likelihood of it tipping over. Our policy is to add v-bracing every 50' in a straight fence line. This means for every 5 panels installed in a straight line, you should plan for an extra 2 panels. Our installers will come prepared with extra panels whenever possible, but remember to consider this when budgeting for your fence, too!
✔️ Weekend surcharges - Most events take place over the weekend, but having your fencing installed outside of regular business hours can result in extra charges. After all, we need to fairly compensate our installers for giving up their personal time! If possible, consider having fence for your weekend event installed on a Friday and removed on the following Monday. Otherwise, plan for weekend surcharges.
✔️ Wind safety - Fence standing in big, open fields or parking lots (where events often take place) is more susceptible to winds. If you’re planning to add banners or screening to the fence, the risk of it blowing over is even higher. Plan ahead by asking for stability accessories, like sandbags and concrete blocks, or consider other anchoring methods to reinforce your fence.

With the summer months getting hotter and wildfires burning across the country, the air quality has become an increasing problem in many provinces - particularly in Quebec and Ontario. Wildfire smoke can cause short and long-term health effects such as asthma, cardiovascular problems, and compromised lung function.
Whether you work in construction or festivals and events, much of the work you’re performing takes place outdoors - so how do you protect employees from smoke exposure? Here are a few helpful tips to stay safe during periods of poor air quality:
1. If possible, move work indoors. Though not all work can be completed indoors, certain tasks can likely be performed inside a facility.
2. If you can’t move, reschedule work until air quality gets improves. Follow air quality advisories in your area to plan work shifts accordingly.
3. Slow down the pace of work or increase the number of workers on the task. Reducing physical exertion will reduce inhalation of polluted air.
4. Increase the frequency and/or duration of breaks.
5. If work is being performed in a climate controlled facility, ensure the HVAC system is working properly, and its air filters are clean and undamaged.
We were surprised and delighted to receive a signed jersey from Olympic gold medalist and professional hockey player Laura Stacey and the entire team at her annual LS7 Sticks in for Charity Road Hockey Tournament! For the fourth year, Modu-Loc had the pleasure of donating fence to create hockey rinks for players of all ages, genders, and skill levels to enjoy a day of hockey on the streets.
All the proceeds from this event go to KidSport Ontario, an organization dedicated to making sports more accessible so that all kids can play. This year, the event raised over $28,000 with more than 100 players participating in the event. Congratulations, Laura and team! We look forward to working with you next year!

As we come upon the last Monday of June, we would like to spotlight our Toronto branch for Meet the Team Monday! Our Toronto location is one of our largest depots in Canada, both in terms of headcount and in the volume of jobs it handles. It is the hub for our corporate staff, which includes our Safety group and our very own Marketing team.
Our Toronto branch services the entire Greater Toronto Area and beyond, stretching from the edges of Scarborough to the borders of Mississauga all the way north to the Richmond Hill area. This team takes on some of the biggest events the city has to offer, like the Canadian National Exhibition and the many music and street festivals happening throughout the city all year round!
Today is National Hydration Day! The day reminds us of the importance of staying hydrated and all the benefits hydration offers for our bodies. 😄
Not only is it important to hydrate when working outdoors, but also when working indoors. Some ways to stay hydrated are:
✔️ Drinking water (or flavoured water)
✔️ Eating hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumber, and salads
✔️ Consuming electrolytes, such as those found in nuts, coconut water, or sport drinks
Summer has officially arrived! ☀️ Summer means longer days, sunnier skies, and hotter weather. As fun as the summer months can be, we want to encourage people to take care of themselves and stay safe. Here are a few tips for summer safety:
✔️ Stay hydrated - Drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons, including regulating body temperature and preventing heat stroke.
✔️ Wear sunscreen - Used regularly, sunscreen helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer and premature aging.
✔️ Wear breathable clothing - Breathable fabric allows v***r moisture to diffuse and prevents you from overheating when working (or playing!) outdoors.
We’re hiring! Modu-Loc offers an exciting, fun environment that can help you build the knowledge, skills and relationships you need to support your future career. Best of all, it’s the opportunity to get out from behind a desk and get in behind the scenes of some of the best events and festivals across the country. Yes, we’re a fence business - but our true passion is people!
Here are just some of the reasons you’ll love working for Modu-Loc:
✔️ We provide comprehensive and competitive medical, mental health, dental and vision benefits for full-time employees.
✔️ In addition to technical and leadership training, we offer tuition reimbursement.
✔️ We give back to our communities through partnerships with organizations like Habitat for Humanity Canada.
✔️ On top of regular vacation and paid time off programs, we offer time off for volunteering and observation of non-statutory holidays.
✔️ We provide our team members with opportunities to connect through numerous employee resource groups, like our Veterans Program and WISE (Women: Inspired. Supported. Empowered.).

Modu-Loc Sales Representative Eric Dion was privileged to get an invitation to yesterday’s Chambre de commerce de l'Est de Portneuf golf tournament. This unique tournament highlighted local flavours with the theme “Flavours of Portneuf”, and featured gourmet food stations throughout the golf course. Eric was accompanied by Groupe Jean Coutu and Construction Tri-Force, and we’re sure they all enjoyed sampling the delicious offerings of local food vendors! Thank you to Chambre de commerce de l'Est de Portneuf for a fun-filled day!
We are thrilled to announce that we have recently joined the Vancouver Island Construction Association! To answer increasing demand for quality temporary fencing and skilled installation on Vancouver Island, Modu-Loc opened a branch in Duncan earlier this year. We are excited to get to know the Vancouver Island construction community via upcoming VICA events, and look forward to building lasting relationships with other VICA members. We’ll see you all at the Nanaimo golf tournament! 🏌️
Forklifts are an integral part of our business, and the construction industry around the world. Our operators move our fence products from warehouse to truck to load on and off at site. Without our forklift operators, much of the work needed to move fence would be time-consuming and dangerous. So instead, forklifts do the heavy lifting. But with all that heavy lifting, safety becomes paramount.
Training is a huge factor in reducing the number of forklift-related injuries. The type of forklift, the material being moved, and the facility where they work also impacts the type of training an operator needs. National Forklift Safety Day serves as a reminder that brings industries across the country together to help improve the safety of every employee.
Meet the Team Monday is back! This time we are featuring the crew who represents our nation's capital, Ottawa. The team, led by Dan Dupuis and Jessie Fleming, is known for giving back, supporting different charitable organizations to help those in need.
One great example was when they participated in last year’s Construction Community Cares Equipment Parade in support of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Jointly organized by the NCHCA and the Ottawa Construction Association, the parade raised money for the hospital while bringing smiles to the faces of young patients in palliative care. Not everybody would get up early on a Saturday to dress up in a dinosaur costume for charity - but our Ottawa team did! We are so proud of this small depot and cannot wait to see what other amazing stories they have to offer!
A large event like the The Princess Margaret Ride to Conquer Cancer requires a lot of coordination. Thankfully, we love a challenge! This week, we had eleven crews working at three different sites from Hamilton to Niagara to help set up for this well-known annual fundraising event, which brings thousands of cyclists together to raise funds for life-saving cancer research 🚲 It’s always rewarding to pull off a logistically complex event, but seeing a whole community rally together in pursuit of a cure is extra special. Kudos to our southwestern Ontario team for a job well done! 👏
Our Toronto crews were on site at Oakdale Golf & Country Club earlier this week to install some crowd control fencing for the RBC Canadian Open . This storied tournament has been around since 1904, and the 2023 edition kicked off on Monday with a Celebrity Pro-Am to raise funds for the Golf Canada Foundation. 🏌️
Along with our extended family at Sunbelt Rentals, we’re proud to be able to make it happen for prestigious golf events like this one! ⛳
Today we visited Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Burlington to attend the closing ceremony for phase 2 of the Habitat for Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin Tiny Homes project.
This unique project was an incredible collaboration between Habitat Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin, the Halton Catholic District School Board, partner organizations, and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nations Community. Students and faculty were involved in building and finishing the tiny homes, which will be relocated to a First Nations site in Bruce Peninsula to increase available housing stock.
We are so proud that Modu-Loc fence was used to secure the build site and protect these tiny homes. To learn more about the Tiny Homes project, visit https://habitathm.ca/tiny-home-builds/
The annual Corporation des Entrepreneurs Généraux du Québec Cyclo-Golf tournament is an event we look forward to every year! We returned this year to sponsor the flags on the green, and Quebec City Sales Representative Eric Dion spent the day out on the links, enjoying the company of other CEGQ members and construction industry peers. 🏌️ The day wrapped up with a cocktail reception and dinner, where we enjoyed some delicious food and delightful networking. Thanks to CEGQ for organizing another fantastic event - we look forward to the next one! ⛳
We are officially in June, which means the weather is warmer, the days are longer, and the drinks are colder. Patios are opening up, which means bars and restaurants are in need of temporary fencing to keep outside traffic away from restaurant guests.
Our crews down in Southwestern Ontario set up this temporary patio perimeter for a restaurant down in Elmira, ON, to prepare for the busy summer season. If your business is in need of temporary fence for a patio or other enclosures, visit our website at https://bit.ly/3WBG1K7 to speak to your local customer service representative.
At Modu-Loc, we invest in our employees. We expect and rely on our Fence Technicians to not only install fence out on construction and event sites, but to also educate and inform our customers on the best and safest way to secure their sites.
Dylan Hopper, formerly from Port Coquitlam and now working on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, is here today to share what he looks for during installation and how he assesses requirements when going out on sites.
Another Meet the Team Monday is here, and we want to showcase our amazing Montreal crew! Our Montreal team is led by Operations Manager JJ Atoke and Assistant Operations Manager Jonas Agbadjizo. 😄
This team services the entire Montreal region. They are a tightknit group that is always there to lend a helping hand. They often collaborate with our Quebec team and are always open to helping our small but mighty marketing team! Swipe to see some of the great sites and installations this team has done in the past, and like this post to show your support as they get ready for another busy summer season! 💪
