The Healthy Tomorrow Foundation is deeply disturbed about the rise in 2SLGBTQIA+ hate and the related rallies that are happening across Canada today. We stand with our trans brothers and sisters, who are facing discrimination, violence and threats to their dignity and human rights.
Every person in Canada, no matter their race, creed, religious beliefs, gender identity or sexuality, has equal and full rights. This should never be up for debate.
Stand with us in the conviction that “there is no space for hate” in Canada.
Take a moment for yourself today and head outside for a few minutes to see how the rain has really brought out the colour.
We are grateful for the rain of late. For the fires. Plants. Animals. Forests. Our ability to enjoy many of the woodland trails and areas that are not under evacuation.
Nature is important to us on many levels. Let’s treasure it. Protect it. Really get out there and enjoy it.
We are so fortunate as Nova Scotians. We have seen great acts of giving. Let’s continue to give our all to protect the beauty that surrounds us here in Nova Scotia.
As you Make Your Move
today and in the days ahead, stay grounded in gratitude for our people, the many helpers, and our abundant parks, trails, walkways and green spaces.
We are grateful. 🌲🌲🌲
We are grateful for the beauty that surrounds us in Nova Scotia. No matter where you live, getting to a local park, trail, woodland area or other green space is never really far. It’s something that has been top of mind for all Nova Scotians lately.
We want to again thank every person who helps to keep these spaces pristine and safe for all. Whether you are a hike leader, firefighter, or a person who picks up litter when they see it, collectively, it means we get to enjoy scenes like these. We are grateful for all of you.
Thinking of those deeply committed first responders still working the wildfire frontlines, and those Nova Scotians who remain evacuated.
Our hearts are with you.

Now that some areas of Nova Scotia have reopened for woodland and trail use, (not anywhere in evacuated areas/the total fire ban continues), let’s look at why moving more in nature is important for our physical and mental health.
Shannon Johnson, a Halifax-based clinical psychologist and Associate Prof. in the Dept. of Psychology and Neuroscience at Dalhousie University, says, “We all need nature in our lives.” That can be walking in your favourite park or growing tomatoes in a pot on your deck and nurturing them.

A prescription for nature — Healthy Tomorrow Foundation - 2023 Shannon Johnson, PhD, is on a mission to inspire people to get outside. The team at the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation
and Make Your Move
are extraordinarily grateful to everyone working on the frontlines of the Nova Scotia , whose herculean efforts mean some areas of the province have now reopened for your enjoyment of trails, parks, and woodland areas. Moving outside in nature is deeply soothing.
Please remember, a total fire ban remains across the province.
There are still outdoor areas that remain closed to the public as fire activity deems it unsafe to venture into locations where any evacuations continue.
Our hearts remain with those who are still not able to return home, or who have lost their property or beloved pets.
We thank the countless people from near and far on the ground in NS who are helping in whatever way they can to support Nova Scotians during this tragic time.

The team from the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation and Make Your Move would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the firefighters helping fight the wildfires in Nova Scotia.
This includes volunteer and professional personnel, afffliated first response agencies, emergency communications, and those from out-of-province who have rushed to our assistance, including two water bombers from Newfoundland.
The outpouring of help for the thousands of displaced people and animals is a testament to the inherent giving nature of Nova Scotians and Canadians.
We are indebted to “The Helpers,” whom you are seeing assist in many ways, in many communities right now.
Thank you, all.
Stay safe.
Flags continue to be lowered at the Nova Scotia Legislature today and at other provincial and municipal buildings, as Nova Scotians pay their respects to the victims of the Nova Scotia mass shooting, which occurred three years ago, April 18-19, 2020.
A second moment of silence will be held today at noon (ADT), April 19.
The tragedy has affected innumerable people across Nova Scotia and Canada. We stand with those people.
As a small offering, we share this article about how movement can help during the grieving process:

We’ve all heard the age-old expression “laughter is the best medicine.” But did you know there is actual science behind that statement?
Laughter releases neurochemicals, known as endorphins, into our brain cells. Endorphins are the same chemicals that are released when runners experience a “runner’s high.” Given the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic, it’s fair to say we could all use a mood booster.

One of the most important things to keep in mind if you’re growing on a deck or patio is that your containers need to have good drainage. Niki advises to look for containers that have several holes in the bottom to let excess water drain away. Be sure to pair those containers with a high-quality potting mix before you get planting.

Bikes for Kids is back....it's the perfect weekend to sort through your bicycle inventory and figure out what you don't need anymore. The Bikes for Kids Program is accepting bicycles this coming Thursday at the CN Station in Pictou.
Once your bicycle is donated it will go through a good maintenance check and then be given to someone in need of a bicycle. Last summer, the Bikes of Kids program gave away more than 80 bikes to children and adults around Pictou County.
