Visual Literacy
There is a language that the pictures we see daily are using to communicate to our emotions. Along with showcasing my work on this page, I am interested in sharing the language that has mostly been trained out of us at an early age. We are encouraged to make sense of the scribbles and begin to focus on trying to draw realistic images. We are taught to take the colours and textures to depict representational scenes.
The visual language is made up of arts principles that track patterns that the eye is seeing. Although I can draw very realistic images, I have been interested in more expressive work and exploring other mediums like wax and cloth.
Recently my children have grown and I find myself in a swirl of activity. Suddenly I have more time to myself, more ways to begin to explore the concepts that I have been developing in fits and starts. Yet I’m ungrounded and it all seems so strange. So I anchor into my artwork and ideas, to try and make some sense of all this for myself and to share in other ways through my artistic investigations.
