Leatherworld
Harold Stevenson is a Master Craftsman in the art of leathercrafting. Starting out as a hobby, he soon realized it was his passion.
He has been working and creating with leather for over 50 years and has had the pleasure of sharing and teaching his craft to several apprentices. In 1978 he opened Leatherworld in beautiful Victoria, B.C., and after 37 years of business he closed his doors in December 2015 and moved to the Cowichan Valley. He makes all his products with precision and care, paying special attention to fine finishing.

Every now and then I get a hide with a nicely healed brand!
The question is-
Do I incorporate it into a tote bag?
Or cut around it?
This one is especially large which would nicely cover one side of a tote bag.
Thoughts?

🐾 Exciting News for our Furry Friends! 🐾
Attention, Duncan Farmers Market community! We're thrilled to announce our new dog policy to make your market experience enjoyable for everyone, including our four-legged companions. 🌈🐶
🔗 **Leash Guidelines:** Dogs are welcome on a short leash (4' or under). No retractable leashes, please. Owners must have full control of their furry friends.
🐕 **Behavioral Expectations:** Reactive, loud, or aggressive dogs will be kindly asked to leave the market. Let's keep the atmosphere paws-itively friendly!
💩 **Clean-Up Reminder:** Owners, please be responsible and clean up after your pets. Dogs that leave an unwanted mark on a vendor's products will be asked to leave, while owners are welcome back without the problem dog.
🆔 **Emergency Precautions:** Ensure your pup's safety with an ID tag or tattoo in case of emergencies. It's better to be safe than sorry!
🌡️ **Hot Weather Advisory:** On scorching days (30℃+), consider leaving your furry pals at home. The asphalt can be sizzling at 50℃+. Please avoid leaving dogs in cars on hot days.
🚫 **Respectful Socializing:** This isn't a doggy social hour – it's an opportunity for your furry friend to pay attention to YOU. If you'd like your dog to meet another, kindly ask the owner before approaching.
👮♀️ **Enforcement Notice:** Our dedicated management and staff will enforce these rules. We reserve the right to remove dogs not adhering to the guidelines. Let's create a safe and enjoyable space for everyone!
🙌 We appreciate your cooperation in making the Duncan Farmers Market a welcoming and pet-friendly environment. See you at the market, leash in hand! 🐾🍇 🌽🛒

I’ve made several Santa belts over the past few years. The hard part is getting a large cowhide to cut a strip long enough to accommodate Santa’s girth!
Looking forward to seeing Santa again in December!

One of my favourite things to do on holidays is visit farmers markets in other countries that feature artisans. While on our break we had the great pleasure of meeting three leatherworkers in New Zealand.
Paul at Eysink Leathercraft in Paihia NZ hand stitches everything! His selection of hats is top quality! I truly felt his steampunk leatherwork was a labour of love. Harder leather is his preference for his work.
Also in Paihia we met Jose at Skin to Skin Leather Goods. She has a great selection of cross body bags, hats and children’s slippers made from softer leathers.
In Napier NZ we met Angie at Puketitiri Leather Goods Angie hand stitches all her work. Great selection of crossbody bags and travel bags. She uses a combination of soft and harder leathers.
We found all these leatherworkers so friendly, inviting and willing to share their art with us. There’s just something about traveling so far and meeting artisans with the same passion for leatherwork as ourselves!
Paul is on IG and FB
Angie is on FB
Unfortunately we can’t find a link for Jose.
Please check them out, like and comment on their pages!
Well our break is almost over and we’ll be back at March 23rd from 10:00-2:00!
Picked up a few hides from in Nanaimo which has kept me busy.
Looking forward to getting back into a routine again!

It's the nineth anniversary of turning that key for the last time!
Leatherworld started on Douglas Street July 1st 1978 on a hope and a prayer. We then moved to the Yates Street location September 1st 1986. I remember our move being on a really tight budget. We actually moved the clicker by forklift through the side streets of Victoria. Many friends and famiy helped throughout the years to build Leatherworld to its fullest potential and wind it down for it's retirement. We remember you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
We'll be back at Duncan Farmers Market at the end of March after a much needed break.
