Me: Hey, God.

God: Hello, my love.

Me: I'm falling apart. Can you put me back together?

God: I would rather not.

God: Because you are not a puzzle.

Me: What about all of the pieces of my life that are falling down onto the ground?

God: Let them stay there for a while. They fell off for a reason. Take some time and decide if you need any of those pieces back.

Me: You don't understand! I'm breaking down!

God: NO...You don't understand. You are "breaking through!" What you are feeling is just growing pains. You are shedding the things and the people in your life that are holding you back. You are not falling apart. You are falling into place. Relax. Take some deep breaths and allow those things you don't need anymore to fall off of you. Quit holding onto pieces that don't fit you anymore. Let them fall off. Let them go.

Me: Once I start doing that, what will be left of me?

God: Only the very best pieces of you.

Me: I'm scared of changing.

God: I keep telling you - YOU ARE NOT CHANGING!! YOU ARE BECOMING!!

Me: Becoming who?

God: Becoming who I created you to be! A person of light and love and charity and hop and courage and joy and mercy and grace and compassion. I made you for more than the shallow pieces you have decided to adorn yourself with that you cling to with such greed and fear. Let those things fall off of you. I love you! Don't change! BECOME! Become! Become who I made you to be. I'm going to keep telling you until you remember it.

Me: There goes another piece.

God: Yep. Let it be.

Me: So...I'm not broken?

God: No - but you are breaking like the dawn. It's a new day. Become! Become!

At some point, procrastination is going to happen. You’re not immune to it.

Maybe it's writing an email to your list…

Maybe it’s having an uncomfortable conversation with someone on your team...

Or maybe it’s posting something on social media…

Either way, it’s bound to happen to you.

Lots of people will tell you things like…

"Just push through. MAKE yourself do it. What you NEED is MORE discipline."

But, I say NO because here’s the truth...

When you’re experiencing procrastination, it’s because you're scared of something.

You have a FEAR that’s preventing you from taking action.

So what’s a person to do!?

Let’s start by asking yourself a few questions...

***1. How do you FEEL about the task you need to accomplish? Scared? Anxious? Overwhelmed?***

Write it down.

***2. What is the actual thought that goes through your head to cause that emotion?***

It might be something like...

"I don't think I'm good enough to make this work."

"I don’t really know what I’m doing..."

Or…

"What if people don't like it?"

Go ahead and write that down.

***3. Reframe your thoughts.***

If you want a different feeling, you need a different thought.

So let's re-frame a common one… the fear of failure.

Instead of spending all your time worrying about what will happen if something doesn't work, start thinking about what will happen when it DOES work.

Shift your thoughts from...

"I'm worried this won't work." ——> "I CAN’T WAIT for this to work—it’s going to be amazing."

So the last thing you should do when you’re wrestling with procrastination is FORCE yourself through.

Because it’s only after you take the time to figure out what's REALLY going on and identify the root fear, that you'll be able to reframe your thoughts and dissolve the ones that aren’t serving you.
