Last week, members of the Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch had the incredible opportunity to participate in Day 1 of the Bent Arrow Culture Camp 2024. Hosted by , this event was a journey into the heart of Indigenous culture and community spirit.
The Culture Camp immersed us in a rich tapestry of teachings, traditions, and experiences. These Teachings resonated with ancient wisdom and hands-on activities that deepened our understanding of Indigenous history and heritage.
One of the highlights was the welcoming atmosphere created by the Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Cultural Connectors, who generously shared their wisdom with us. Their guidance not only enriched our knowledge but also fostered a deeper sense of respect and appreciation for Indigenous perspectives.
The camp also provided us with a platform to reflect on the importance of community and collaboration, acknowledgement of nature and animals, kindness and effective use of our five senses. Through meaningful discussions and interactive sessions, we explored the power of words and dance as a gratitude prayer.
Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch participating in the Bent Arrow Culture Camp was a significant step in our ongoing journey towards cultural awareness and inclusivity. It reinforced our commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all community members.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who made this experience possible. Your dedication to preserving and sharing Indigenous culture is truly inspiring and has left a lasting impact on all of us.
We look forward to continuing our partnership with Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society and other Indigenous organizations in Edmonton, as we strive to promote harmony, understanding, and unity within our diverse community.
June 21 was National Indigenous Peoples Day, and the Board Members and Staff at the Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch Program Society celebrated the culture, heritage, and resilience of the diverse Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island (part of which includes modern-day Canada).
ENW is dedicated to continuing to educate ourselves on the rich history of the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples and encourages our volunteers and community members to do the same by celebrating Indigenous-led events and listening to their stories across Edmonton.
Thank you to our ENW Representative for Prince Rupert, Laurie, and the Prince Rupert Community for hosting us at their Flowers in the Park event last Saturday. Despite the smoky skies, many families came out to arrange beautiful bouquets of flowers and to connect with their neighbours.
Want ENW to come out to your event and talk about safety? Email [email protected] with event details or DM us here, and we can discuss!
From emergency medical to environmental disaster response teams, Get Ready In the Park was an amazing opportunity for the public to learn about our first responders.
ENWโs work in preventing crime before it happens is crucial in alleviating some pressure on first responders who respond to multitudes of emergencies daily.
Rupert Community is having its Flowers in the Park event this Saturday, May 11. PRCL families will be arranging bouquets for the springtime and enjoying snacks and activities.

Happy New Year 2023!
Imagine this: You mail your presents to your loved ones. After a few weeks, the post office sends you a notification saying that they have delivered your present to your loved oneโs front door. You are so excited to tell your loved ones to open the package, but they say that they havenโt received anything! Your package, and their present, has been stolen!
To stay safe around the holidays, here are three tips to preventing porch theft this Christmas.
Leave specific drop-off instructions.
Some mail companies offer services that better protect your product. Examples include: requiring a signature to receive the package, putting the package in a more secure location, or keeping it safe at the post office for pick-up.
Install security cameras.
Sometimes, people are less likely to steal packages if they think they are going to get caught. By installing security cameras, you can see exactly what is happening to your package.
Ask your neighbours to pick up your packages.
If you know that you wonโt be home on time to receive a package, ask your neighbours to grab your packages for you. They can hold your packages until you return. This way, your packages are not sitting outside in the cold.
We hope these tips can keep you and your families safe during this holiday season! Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
