DFS supports Indigenous artists by providing platforms to show their work and resources to help craft their stories at a local, national, and international level.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
This federal statutory holiday was created through legislative amendments made by Parliament.
Wear orange
Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.
On September 30, we encourage all Canadians to wear orange to honour the thousands of Survivors of residential schools.

In 1943, he demonstrated peacefully in Ottawa for Aboriginal rights and self-government. That same year, Pegahmagabow and other Native leaders founded the Brotherhood of Canadian Indians, the first national Aboriginal organization. Meet DJ Pacha in his own words!
*
I am a Peruvian Dj producer from the city of Cusco, my musical project is
about the ancestral psychedelic music from South America from the
dancing ceremonies where exotic instruments were use in order to create
unique melodies inspired from the connection to the spirits from the other
side that we traditionally known and look for their friendship, guidance and
advice which many times comes in the way of magic songs with specific
frequencies that will transform the energy into power.
*
My live set is a dancing ceremony with a little bit of a workshop for the
audience to partycipate.
*
In this sense the kind of music I play is psychedelic trance music mixed
with the ancestral instruments mentioned before creating a unique style of
psytrance music full of magical flute melodies, chantings magic words in
Quechua language all along the songs from beginning to the end but with
good psytrance breaks in between with unexpected turns in the mix that will
give transport you back in times with a always sweet dancing beat. I’m
looking for the balance between the organic psychedelic and the electronic
synthesizers that will create the electronic shamanic universe for me to play
and sing over the mix making a live set with unique performance every
time.

Meet Andreas Moreno, in his own words!
*
"I dedicated my life to writing music and poetry. There is sanctity to the creation of art that I have devoted myself to. I have had dreams ever since I was a young boy to make positive changes in the world through music and poetry. No matter how long it takes, and how many hardships I have to go through, music will always help me persevere. I want to be an example for anyone else who lives with depression, to prove that you can overcome any adversity life has to throw at you and music has always been that sanctuary for me to step outside of myself. I want to be an example to show people that there is a divinity in life that is not exclusive with any religious institution. That there is a majesty to existence that everyone is tethered to through our collective experience of this life."
