Freddie is helping out with some maintenance chores today.
A great retirement celebration for Terry after 38 years serving in the food services dept for ECOH. You are compassionate, giving, and served 10s of thousands of meals to the vulnerable with kindness every day. You will be missed and we pray God's best for you in this next chapter.
We had another fantastic Wellness Wednesday this week! Our incredible team came together for a rejuvenating session of stretching yoga, focusing on improving health and renewing strength. It's moments like these that remind us of the importance of self-care and community support in the workplace. 🧘♀️🧘♂️💪
Alix, our Recreation Manager who is currently on maternity leave popped by the office for the team to meet the newest ECOH member, Zuriel. He looks pretty content in his new work environment. Welcome baby Zuriel!
Cash and Cage fundraiser event at ECOH was a success. $7000+ was raised for Partners in Mission supporting work in Sierra Leone. Arrests, charges read, bail set, some who fled their jail time, bail raised … a super fun day. Special thanks to the Peace Officer who worked hard all day trying to keep order at ECOH. Also a special shout out to our amazing admin team who planned the whole thing and had all their bosses arrested!
As National Indigenous History Month soon ends, we reflect on this passage, taken from the First Nations Version of the New Testament.
Supported housing staff showed up and ready to bring the cup home. Freddie, the Cat Boss was also suited up! Go Oilers Go!

4 of our Recovery Team suited up in Respirators and Tyvek suites (5 hours) on Friday to retrieve some important items that could be salvaged for our participants impacted by the Keystone fire. This would definitely be considered “above and beyond” and showed such care for those we serve. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!

Keystone Residential Recovery FIRE UPDATE: June 6, 2024
On Thursday, May 30, 2024, there was an oven fire in one of the participant suites that has required a full building evacuation. All 24 program partipants have been housed safely in Salvation Army (Edmonton Centre of Hope) facilities. It will be some time before the facility will be open to anyone. As you can appreciate it is unsafe for entry or habitation. The entire Residential Recovery Program will have a temporary home at our beautifully fully furnished Cornerstone Facility until all building remediation and repairs have been completed. All clients have been provided with ample new clothing, from under to outer wear as needed. Cupboards and freezers are full provided by The Salvation Army. The suites come with all required furnishings and household items, clients affected were provided towels, facecloths, necessary toiletries, gift cards, and thrift store vouchers where needed. Their immediate needs are all being met. We also have a full compliment of our professional staff including; Management, Client Care Support, Addictions Counsellor, Social Worker, and Chaplaincy team available 24/7 for the ongoing emotional support that is required during such a difficult event.
Our Keystone Facility is home to our Residential Recovery Program for males/those who identify as male. We are grateful to the Govt. of Alberta who provides funding for 24 individuals to be in a residential recovery program to support them on their recovery journey. The participants in recovery pay no fees to be in this program, and there is a waitlist. It is shared apartment style accommodation; all required furnishings and household items are provided by The Salvation Army and all food is provided for participants as a part of being in the program. Individuals who are in this program are encouraged to bring as little as possible by way of clothing and personal items as it is a shared program space with a limited amount of time in the Program (this is not their permanent home).
It is hopeful that items that are salvageable from Client bedrooms will be removed and cleaned by end of day tomorrow by an external remediation company (whose protocols and guidelines we must adhere to) and returned to the program participants. Unfortunately, their soft items such as clothing is not salvageable. That favorite hoodie, or pants, or hat was a casualty of the impact of the fire.
We are grateful to our volunteers and donors who give freely to help us help others. Your donations made it possible for The Salvation Army to respond quickly, provide new clothing, food and provide furnished suites to those who in a desperate situation would have nowhere else to turn.
We covet your prayers during this time of transition for both the Keystone Recovery participants who are navigating a loss, and also for our Cornerstone participants who have received 24 new roommates in a very short time. Thank you.
At The Salvation Army in Canada, we believe reconciliation is an opportunity to create real relationships with each other. We hear stories with care and respect, to learn the truth and sit in the tension.
This Indigenous History Month and beyond, will you walk the reconciliation path with us?
Healing happens when we walk together.

Gracie and her little gaggle of goslings hatched safely, made their way thru Grace Manor, and off to the pond again this year. Always such a special and meaningful experience for our staff and residents to have her come back year after year to nest her eggs safely in our courtyard. This year named Snap, Crackle and Pop. 🐣🐣🐣
Staff and participants happily joined together at all 5 of our locations to participate in site and community clean ups for EARTH DAY on April 22nd. It was a productive and fun time working together.
