Let’s talk about people’s most favorite gaming console - PlayStation 5 today.

Its been almost over 3 years of PS5 first released worldwide and became most fav. Consoles for Gamers.

Lot of people may not know what is being used as a thermal compounder in PS5.

Ps5 is the first console start using Liquid Metal as thermal compounder which has higher thermal conductivity and longevity compared to regular thermal paste.

Some people are facing overheating issues after 3 years of usage and wonders does low liquid metal causing this problem?

My answer is NO: after working on more than 100 PS5, I found liquid metal does not cause overheating issue as all PS5 comes with decent amount of liquid metal.

Two main reasons of Overheating:

Ventilation block - lot of dust, pet hairs, etc etc
Or if your ps5 fall from the height and heat sink got band. Bent heatsink can’t hold liquid metal on APU of MoBo and liquid metal can run on the side edges of APU.

One more thing, I always recommend my customers to place PS5 in horizontal mode, not vertical. Even Sony makes Base stand for ps5 to place it in vertical direction. It really does not help for performance.

Customer tried to replace HDMI port by himself and ended up connecting all 19pins together. Top of that blowing out one tiny caps and diode.

Advise: Do Not Try to replace HDMI
Port by yourself even by watching videos on YouTube. This task needs special tools to get job done. You can ended up by sorting whole board.

It needs high end microscope and required micro soldering tools.

Anyways, fix the port and added tiny caps and diode. PS5 back to the life. Another happy customer.

Xbox Series X - HDMI port replacement:

First two Pic: Job done by customer himself went pretty bad. Created bridges between port’s pins which also damaged the HDMI retimer IC.
