Welcome to the The Fredericton Karate Dojo page. The FKD is New Brunswick’s only Dojo that is certified by The Dai Nippon Butokukai of Kyoto, Japan.
On the weekend of June 7,8,9 our senior instructor Ken Tallack, Hanshi held the 3rd Annual Summer Training Festival in Kingston, Ontario.
This event brought together martial artists from across Canada for 3 days of intensive training in various arts: Karate, Jjjutsu, Iaido, Kung Fu, Okinawan Kobudo and MMA and more.
The caliber of instructors and all participants was awesome and inspiring!
Kyoshi Greg McKenna was presented with the grade of Kyudan (9th degree black belt) and Rob McFee and Achille LeFort were surprised and honored to receive the grade of Rokudan (6th degree black belt).
Saturday, March 16, 2024 the Fredericton Karate Dojo held an adult testing to examine the hard working, dedicated students and promote them to new grades.
All candidates were successful and demonstrated the discipline and commitment that we are proud of.
Many of these students started when they were very young and some have just reached the black belt level - quite an achievement!

On Tuesday August 15 we were very happy to have a visit from sensei Dave Shaw of the Oshawa Budo Club.
Originally from this area he has trained in Jundokan Goju Ryu Karate-do and other forms of budo for many years and was generous to share some of his knowledge with us last night.
Training in the big (hot) dojo on Thursday, July 13!

On May 13, 2023 we conducted a grading for our adult class and are happy to be able to announce these promotions as a result of our students hard training and dedication.
We hope they will continue the tradition of Goju Ryu Meitoku-ha Karate Do as taught to us by Hanshi Ken Tallack.

On Oct. 12 we presented several of our dedicated students with significant awards:
Carli LeRoux received her certificate of Nidan (2nd degree black belt). This rank is officially recognized by Dai Nippon Butoku Kai in Kyoto, Japan.
Chloe Walker and Patricia Bernard were presented with embroidered instructors black belts.
Previously, Brandon Nowlan received his gokyu (yellow belt) for his excellent work.

Tonight was the graduation ceremony for our adult students who endured a grading on June 4th.

Spring is here but yesterdays snow gave the warriors of the Sidekicks class the opportunity to show that with discipline and mental focus you can accomplish anything.
In this case they practiced Sanchin kata and basics in the snow in bare feet! Awesome work!!
Thanks to the regulations changing we will be starting classes
again next week! That means ALL kids classes will resume.
There will be no classes tomorrow due to weather.
Monday evening will be the first class back.
Masks will be necessary as before.
Monday evening: Sidekicks (10-15) 7:15- 8pm
Adults: 8:00-9:30 (beginner section of class is 45 minutes)
Wednesday evening: Young Samurai (7-10) 6:30-7:15pm
Sidekicks 7:15-8:00
Adults 8:00-9:30 (beginner class first 45 minutes)
Saturday morning: Little Dragons (5-7) 9:30-10am
Young Samurai (7-10) 10:00-10:45
Sidekicks 10:45-11:30
Adults 11:30-1pm (beginner class first 45 minutes)

Kids karate on Saturday!
We were fortunate to have our senior instructor, Hanshi Ken Tallack, visiting on Friday, Sept.10 and Saturday, Sept. 11 for an intensive seminar in our style of karate known as Goju Ryu Meitoku-ha.
Hanshi Tallack trained in Okinawa with the founder of our style, Dai Sensei Meitoku Yagi. Hanshi Tallack brought this style to Canada!
He is also the Canadian representative of the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai of Kyoto, Japan.
He travelled from Kingston , Ontario to review most of the system which made for a long, tiring but awesome weekend!
