Get ready for fall programs!

Did you know that the YMCA of Fredericton offers THREE different forms of martial art? Karate, Aikido and Muay Thai. These classes are offered to children, teens and adults.

Classes will start the week of September 9 and run until the week of November 25.

Memberships to the YMCA include access to all of our amenities, drop-in programs, the indoor play structure known as Optimus Climb and child memberships include THREE programs (subject to availability).

EARLY YEAR PROGRAMS FOR FALL

Visit us online to see what we're offering our youngest members this fall! Early Years programs are for children between the ages of 0 - 5 years old. The session will run from the week of September 9 - Week of November 25.

(Subject to availability) Early Years members can register for up to 3 programs per term! This can include ONE swimming lesson.

ROLLING REGISTRATION FOR SWIMMING LESSONS!

This Fall we will be introducing ROLLING REGISTRATION for YMCA swimming lessons.
The benefit of this new system is that it allows swimmers to continue in their level until they pass! Moreover, they can ROLL right into the next level as soon as possible!
Once the Fall term is under way, new participants can register at any time throughout the year!
Registration will open on Friday, August 23 at 7:00 a.m. ONLINE.
The Fall term will start on Monday, September 9.

This fall the YMCA is offering our Power-Up Program to youth age 12-15.
Power-Up is a ten week program starting in September. Power-Up will expose participants to new games, challenges and ways of moving through life as a confident leader and engaged community members.
From disc golf and trail running, to STEM workshops, and challenging communication and leadership initiatives, Power-Up will highlight our individual strengths and differences and encourage participants to embrace their unique attributes and learn from other’s.
If this sounds like something that might interest the youth in your life, please send them to our open house on Thursday August 15th. We will have a nutritious dinner, prepared fresh in our Y Kitchen, demo some games, give a tour of the facility and get potential participants information into our system to set them up for their complimentary, four month membership that comes with a completed Power-Up registration.

Included with Power-Up is a complimentary YMCA membership for active participants. Memberships will run in 4 month intervals at which point a survey will need to be completed to extend membership for another 4 months. Surveys help ensure the success of the program, improve the program quality and secure financial longevity as well.
Memberships include access to our fitness centre, pool, gym and one registered program per session; additional program fees may apply.

Family Friend will be based on the 8 Dimensions of Wellness (Emotional, Spiritual, Physical, Social, Financial, Occupational, Intellectual and Environmental) in alignment with the YMCA’s dedication to the growth of all persons in spirit, mind and body, and to their sense of responsibility to each other and the global community.
This year we have TWO COHORTS. Sessions are held monthly on every second and fourth Wednesday evenings, starting in September and commence in June. Each session is comprised of a mix of time with family and a time where parents and children are engaged in separate facilitated activities. Each session also includes a nutritious meal, prepared fresh in our YMCA kitchen. *Participants must register and attend only one cohort.*
Included with Family Friend is a complimentary YMCA membership for active participants. We recently received this note from one of our YMCA members. He hopes that by sharing his story, he will inspire others.

"I wanted to share my journey from a lonely bus stop in Saint John to a thriving, clean, and positive lifestyle. It was a journey filled with unexpected turns.

I found refuge at the Saint John House shelter when I was homeless and lost. A rainy day in Fredericton led me to the Provincial Building, where Matraca at the YMCA Career Centre changed my life.

Despite having no resume, phone, or ID, job hunting seemed impossible. However, Matraca's guidance empowered me to build not only a resume but also a network.

I applied relentlessly, in person and online, gaining local support from organizations like Saint John House and AIDS NB. The Career Centre generously offered their phone for essential communication.

Dan Keating at the YMCA equipped me with crucial job search skills, boosting my confidence. Matraca, Dan, and the Fredericton Homeless Shelter formed a small but mighty support system, fostering meaningful friendships. With their help, I secured employment and now give back by volunteering at the Greener Village food bank.

My journey proves that resilience, kindness, and a helping hand can transform even the most challenging circumstances into a thriving future."

NEW MONTH - NEW FITNESS CHALLENGE!

Visit one of our Personal Trainers in the Wellness Centre at 570 York Street to get set up with the AUGUST Fitness Challenge!

This month, we will be spinning our way to fitness as we see how FAST you can spin on a stationary bike! Peddle as fast as you can until you reach 1Km. Fastest time WINS!

This coming weekend is a long weekend! Please note that there will be NO registered programs over the long weekend. There will also be NO Group Fitness Classes on the holiday Monday. The YMCA at 570 York Street will be open on Monday, August 5 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Fredericton North YMCA will be CLOSED on the holiday Monday. Registration is now open for Morning Pre-School!

Starting September 9th, our Morning Pre-School program runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00am-11:30am. Children ages 3-4 will make new friends, learn and have fun! Included in the program is weekly swim time, outside play time and play structure time!

As a designated Early Learning facility, our Morning Pre-School program qualifies for reduced parent fees through the GNB Parent Portal. With this offer, fees are $56 biweekly. Our educators follow YMCA's Playing to Learn curriculum as well as the NB Curriculum Framework.

This past week, our 'Master Chef in the Making' campers treated our staff to a sweet surprise...a mobile lemonade stand! Our campers sure are squeezing a lot of fun into each week of camp 🍋😁

Today we celebrate our amazing Manager of Youth Programs, Mike On! Over the past year, we have seen exponential growth of our youth programs, including new summer camps, under Mike's leadership.

Sharing why he loves the Y, Mike says,

"I found my whY at the Y. I love being able to manage and organize sports activities and giving back to the community through sports. Hopefully one day our Y will produce an Olympian! ☺️"

We are so grateful for the energy, creativity and joy you have brought to our YMCA over the past year. Keep shining, Coach Mike! Thank you for making a difference.

Today we are celebrating Amanda's 2 year Y anniversary!

Amanda first joined the team as the Manager of Early Learning in 2022. She is now the Manager of School Age Care.

We asked Amanda what she loves most about working at the YMCA, and this is what she shared:

"I love being able to help shape little minds, helping them grow, and also learning from them on a daily basis. I love all the little voices saying, "Hi Amanda!" in the hall. I love my coworkers and the management team, and also getting to help the educators find their love for their job! I love making a difference in the children's lives, may it be big or small. Working with children is my passion and I should know, being in this field for 19 years and counting! I just love the overall environment at the YMCA and seeing how it is everyone's mission to help anybody that needs it."

Amanda, thank you for making each day fun and full of learning. Keep shining brightly...you are making a difference!

INTRODUCING THE NEWEST ADDITION TO THE FREDERICTON YMCA!!!

A Gaga Ball Pit!!!

Gaga Ball is a fun variation of dodgeball and is fun for all ages.

A big thank you to Denys, Brian and Darcy for completing this special project.

The gaga pit is part of our YMCA outdoor playground, which is used Monday-Friday, 8am-5:30pm for registered YMCA programming. It is open evenings & weekends, and we hope to see you enjoying this new addition to our Y!

Join us in congratulating Mat Stever on completing his first year as Director of Wellness, Aquatics, Membership & Youth Programs!

We asked Mat what he loves most about working at the YMCA, and this is what he shared:

"The staff and Y stories from members on how we make an impact. I'm grateful that I was given an opportunity to be part in helping them experience these successes. Seeing the youth develop lifelong skills and strong friendships in such a positive environment such as our fitness centres, youth programs and our summer camps."
