Sometimes it's nice to slow down, sit on an upside down 5 gallon pail, and eat breakfast in the sheep pen. Holly likes it too, even if she didn't get to eat the pancakes

"did you bring me grain?"

Like humans, chickens change up their wardrobe with the seasons.

Autumns cooler temperatures and shorter days cue the hens to start molting.

Molting is where the hen loses a lot of her feathers, and they typically molt in the spring and fall.

During the molt, the hen usually stops laying eggs because she needs to use those delicious egg proteins to build new feathers.

After a few weeks, her new feathers with be smooth and shiny and ready to keep her warm all winter long.

I'm forever grateful that the previous owners of our acreage took the time to plant a variety of perennials here. Our garden blooms from early spring until fall, with next to no help from me. These pretty flowers keep standing tall and putting out beauty in the world, even when conditions are hard. I think we have a lot to learn from them 🌸

Hot days mean mud baths for the piggies! Did you know pigs don't sweat very much? That's why they love mud baths to keep cool. The mud also acts as a natural sunscreen for them!

I've been working on a custom scent for a while now, and I finally have it just how I want it. Prairie Paradise is a blend of jasmin, ylang ylang, and lavender. This limited edition scent is available in the pictures teacup (pattern: Manitoba Crocus) and jars. If it's popular I'll pour another batch! Stop by the tomorrow to give it a sniff!

I'm here with eggs, candy, candles, and house plants! Lots of great vendors ☺️

Whew its hot out there! Despite the heat the market will still be open on Tuesday June 29 from 4pm-7:30pm. We'll keep it as cool as possible and have cold water free for everyone. No parking lot food court - we'll be inside where its cooler for sure. Our concession will be open and ready to serve everyone with a couple extra tables set up. We'll meet you at the market!

I woke up to the best surprise this morning: Hazel had lambed and had two beautiful, healthy babies! Hazel is a great mom; protective, has lots of milk, and cleaned off her lambs.
These are the first lambs born on our farm, and we're so excited to start our own lambing season!

Spring time means shearing time! Miss Holly was the first to get her trim and she was an absolute doll. Tap and swipe to see the progress pics, including her wool full of grain. I think she's trying to grow her own feed (pregnancy does weird stuff to a gal I suppose 🤷)
