ADUs offer a sustainable approach to help combat affordable housing, environmental protection, and an aging population—some of Canada's most pressing issues today.

In this policy brief, illustrates the potential of Additional Dwelling Units across the country. "The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation has identified that approximately 3.5 million new housing units are needed by 2030 to ensure affordability of the housing market. Just over 900,000 residential lots out of 2,248,633 analyzed (40%) are eligible for the addition of a detached ADU based on existing municipal zoning bylaws. ADUs can play a role in tackling this housing gap while supporting residential infill and reducing the need for new infrastructure."

Cabin Office Company is a family-run business that was created out of necessity with a foundation based on honesty, authenticity, quality, and excellence. So what do we do? Cabin Office Company creates unique backyard structures that redefine how you work and live. We build backyard cabin-style offices, studios, recreational areas, bars and even tiny homes. We pre-fabricate the main components of our backyard havens and then assemble and customize on-site. Our clients receive turn-key service from the initial quote to final reveal and our end product is changing the way people work and live for the better. The question is, what will you use your Cabin Office for?

Key Responsibilities

Main duties include, but are not limited to:
General project management related activities
Attending team meetings
Quality control and time management
Working with an apprentice and others to erect buildings, install airtight weather barrier, door and windows, wood siding, steel siding and roofing, interior wood panelling, window jambs, trim and baseboards, and flooring
Working alongside subcontractors including electrical and other trades
Operating hand and powered construction related tools
Health and safety - ensuring all rules/regulations are adhered to
Other duties as assigned
Experience / Qualifications/Education:
Diploma in a Construction related field or demonstrated experience
Carpenter with a minimum 3-5 years working experience
Experience with metal framing, door/window installation, wood and steel siding, tile work and other skills will be strongly preferred
Team player who enjoys working with customers and other trades, meeting challenges head on, creatively solving problems, and taking pride in their work

Working Conditions

Outdoors, bending, lifting.
Some in-shop pre-fabrication work
Access to a personal vehicle (will be reimbursed for mileage)
Travel within Ontario, mainly centred around Guelph and surrounding areas

Compensation

$25 to $40 / hour
