Today we’re turning to our community for your advice!

It can something that was shared with you or something you’ve learned along the way that we should know!

I’ll go first.  My first time going to therapy was with a GPN member, thank goodness for her, and I learned this through therapy with her. How people react, how they treat you says nothing about you and everything about them. 

Example, if I made a mistake with a client and they called me giving the gears, this does not define me.  How I respond to the client is who I am. Similarly same issue, a client calls after the same mistake and is kind about it, this says more about them than it does me.

We all have our own perspective of the world based on our lived experiences and knowing this can be very powerful in business.

Imposter Syndrome, the phrase itself involves too much negative self talk and no space for what is actually happening.

When we say we’re suffering imposter syndrome we’re validating that we believe we’re not good enough, smart enough, not supposed to be in the rooms we’re working towards etc.

When we have “Imposter Syndrome” what is actually happening is GROWTH. In growth lives a lack of confidence because we haven’t done it before, or enough to know we’re good at it.

Once we stop feeling imposter syndrome, we’ve found the confidence. Something we once felt inferior at, we now feel capable and confident. The thing with business owners is, now we’re good at this, what can we do next. Bring on imposter syndrome.

So then we’re living a majority of our time as an imposter?

Not knowing something yet, and knowing that you’re going to find a way to know it. Doesn’t make you an imposter, it makes you one of the few people in our society that has a growth mindset.

That deserves celebrating, not degrading.

Celebrate your path, your action, your wins.

You’re not an imposter. You’re growing, and that’s a wonderful thing.

It truly took me many years to learn this.

I kept looking to books and podcasts to validate me, give me the confidence to take the leap, the leap to try and not succeed.

No book, no person can provide you what you need to find that confidence that final thought of imposter syndrome. The confidence lies in action, in proof you can do it.

Yes, you’re going to fail, and yes it may be hard. Hard is also, not believing in yourself enough and years have gone by and you haven’t taken the leap.

Take the leap.

The fear of the jump is almost always scarier than the jump itself.

Stop holding yourself back.

I am not saying to say NO to more, I am recommending that you understand the cost basis of your decisions.

If I say YES to a Board of Directors role, I am saying NO to those hours of time not committed to The Board which might be used for work, social, movement or family time. This is OKAY. For this example, there are many things we can get from the commitment including, supporting the community, making connections and learning opportunities.

Other examples include if I say YES to working out in the morning perhaps I am saying NO to extra sleep, late night shows/reading or time with kids in the morning.

None of this is bad.

Know your priorities. What is important to you.

Make decisions with thought and spend your time wisely.

Grow Your Business and Better Sleep This month we're learning about the ever coveted sleep.  We so often jeopardize our sleep for productivity, doom scrolling or just can't get or stay asleep. Sleep is important for physical and mental health and overall wellness throughout the day.  

Networking provides the opportunity to have personal and business growth.  Meeting potential new friends, referral sources or clients all in one room, the opportunities are endless.

We love being able to facilitate this within our community. We do this typically from our membership based chapter meetings and from time to time we run events. These events can include open networking, speed networking and often paired with a chance to learn.

Have inspired goals

Set big hairy audacious goals *BHAG

If you have a goal that is to make $100k. The monetary goal doesn't provide you inspiration, but what the money can do for you will. Such as taking a trip to Disney with your family. The BHAG she recommends to dream bigger than you can imagine! For instance take your $100k and make it $1M! The bigger goal changes how you think of yourself, which in turn changes your actions.

We think this is a great start, feel excited about your goals and dream bigger than you ever have! 

Additional advice from Jaime.  After you set these goals, you need an action plan. Take the $1M goal for example, reverse engineer what this looks like for your business. How many of something you need to sell, or how many practitioners you need working under you for passive income.  Now we know the what, we need to know the how.  How are you going to bring in more business, grow your practice or whatever this looks like for your business. Here are some examples: Make 100 phone calls a day. Join networking groups or go to events. Play in the (not literal) sandbox of your ideal client. 

Last but not least, don't be afraid of the actions you need to take to build your success, it's not reaching your goals which will help you live the life you dream of.

Setting Goals that Will Change your Life Statistically say that you have stopped working towards your New Years Resolutions.

I don’t know who needs to hear this today.

Failing at things such as landing a client, making it to the gym, or missing a meeting does not make you a failure. There is no perfection and we're all on our own journey.

If you are on the heels of a bad day, know that there is tomorrow and all the days after that to learn from that to be better and stronger. You are not defined by your failures unless you allow it.

I like to take the stance of extreme ownership. I do not have control over what other people do, or think, but I do have control over what could I have done to be better in that situation.

Having a business family is so helpful to run successes, failures and ideas by. A safe place to discuss and hear from others helps you know that we’re all dealing with projects that feel too big, self doubt and fear. You’re not alone in the business battlefield if you choose not to be.

Enjoy the journey because we rarely ever stop at a destination. We hit milestones and pivot to the next destination without ever getting off the train. Get off the train folks, enjoy the stops as they come and what comes with them.

It was 10 years ago I started in Financial Planning. I didn't have business experience and at that time little experience in actual Financial Planning. If you can imagine, there were a lot of hurdles as there are in any business which can often lead you feeling defeated, inadequate and wanting to quit.

A google search of the most motivational speech had this video as the number one option. I listened to this daily for a long time.

For me, this video taught me to get out of my own head, to keep working at whatever you're trying to achieve (success in business, a weight loss goal etc).
