As the summer sun begins to set, what better way to celebrate the season than with a bit of friendly competition? EFP Engineering did just that with our third annual Employee Golf Tournament, held at Indian Lake Golf Course.
It was heartwarming to see the team spirit and sportsmanship displayed by all participants. Whether a seasoned golfer or a first-timer, everyone gave their best shot.

In October of 2023, Tara Anderson joined the EFP team as a dedicated Accounting, Administration and Client Relations Manager.
With over 17 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience, Having a diploma in both Business Administration, and Accounting, Tara brings innovative ideas and processes to the EFP office. Her extensive background in construction accounting, and several years as an entrepreneur give her the added knowledge on how to best support our team and clients.

Earlier this year, EFP welcomed Christie Frayne to the team as Director of Finance.
A Chartered Professional Accountant with 10+ years of post-graduate experience in accounting. Christie completed her CPA studies with Grant Thornton while gaining valuable experience in Audit & Assurance. She then joined the corporate finance team for a publicly traded REIT where she continued to build on her extensive knowledge and experience in the management of full-cycle accounting. Christie has become an asset to the EFP team with a focus on continual improvement of accounting processes with reliable reporting while adding to the excellent company culture.

Graduating from Queen’s University’s Mechanical Engineering Program in 2023, Alec joined EFP soon after and has immediately become an asset to the team. Alec gained valuable experience on previous projects in a variety of engineering standards, which allows him to design effective, efficient, and elegant mechanical design solutions.
Alec strives to produce practical and economical designs on every project he works on.

Whomever said old and new don’t mix, hasn’t seen this new development in Halifax’s South End!
Located at Barrington and South Streets, the almost two century old Elmwood structure is being fitted with a shiny new tower. After lifting and relocating the original structure, a new 9-storey tower will be connected to the Elmwood via a spacious atrium lobby.
EFP is proud to provide full mechanical and electrical design services for this project. Working with the impressive architecture team at zzap, we offer our kudos to the team at Galaxy Properties for maintaining and restoring this iconic piece of Halifax history.

Welcome to The Rock! Following up on our successful project together on Seymour
Street in Halifax, Werkliv has brought EFP on board for our first project in Newfoundland. Showcasing a successful business model of creating walkable, vibrant student housing developments for Universities across Canada; Werkliv is only gaining momentum! With zzap Consulting leading the Architectural designs, this project is guaranteed to turn heads.
Located on the MUN Campus in St. John’s, Werkliv – Lambe’s Lane is a multi-building, 206-unit development that will provide 663 beds to students. Continuing with Werkliv’s signature style of leveraging proximity to minimize vehicular footprints, the project will strive to provide student centered living spaces with both form and function.
EFP is proud to provide full mechanical and electrical design services for this project, and to be working with this talented project team once more.

This year EFP raised money for Light the Night, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s major community event. With tremendous support from clients and industry partners, we were able to reach our goal of $10,000 raised. EFP is proud to be working with Oberland Agriscience on their new Grassy Lake Drive expansion project in Halifax, a 100,000 square foot Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) rearing facility. Oberland Agriscience is at the forefront of sustainable protein production and is committed to achieving the lowest carbon footprint per gram of protein produced in the industry. Their goals will be achieved through the use of high-efficiency HVAC systems and renewable energy sources, all while accommodating the rigorous temperature, humidity and ventilation demands required by the rearing process.
EFP is providing full mechanical design services for this project.

When we launched EFP Engineering four years ago, we committed to delivering practical and efficient M+E designs that were catered to the owner and were delivered on time. We were very fortunate to have capable electrical sub consultants during this phase of our growth.
We are taking the next step forward with EFP and are pleased to announce that we now have electrical design capabilities in-house. This allows EFP to offer a more closely integrated mechanical and electrical design package.
In late August, Tyler Hughes, P.Eng., joined us as Principal Electrical Engineer. Leveraging 14 years experience, Tyler will lead and grow the new electrical consulting group at EFP.
His prior experience included successfully building a satellite office in Halifax for a national engineering firm. Tyler has a great reputation in Atlantic Canada for prudent designs incorporating client needs. He knows firsthand how critically important effective communication, information sharing and coordination with the consulting team are to the overall success of the project.
We are excited to work with Tyler to grow the electrical consulting group and welcome your inquiries for any current or pending projects.
Overlooking the fairway of Hole #11, this development will add 330 high-quality units to the thriving Links at Brunello community.
The development will include three towers, ranging from 12-16 storeys, all of which will utilize a geothermal well field for high-efficiency heating and cooling. This development will also include three levels of underground parking, social lounges, co-work suites, and more.

Located in the Truro Mall, this vacant retail space was renovated in accordance with Home Hardware’s national branding specifications and is now home to one of the Company’s largest storefronts in Atlantic Canada.
EFP provided full mechanical design services for this project. Starting with demolition and design of base building services for the existing retail space, the design of this new Home Hardware location included a full tenant fit-up of the 45,000 square foot store space and a new, freestanding 15,000 square foot warehouse.

Recognized as a former nunnery in Halifax’s North End, Normandy Flats is a three-storey retro-fit project of an existing dorm-style structure. The project consists of reconfiguring the current floorplans as well as incorporating a new basement level suite for a total unit count of 28 one-bedroom units. The basement level design will also include new mechanical and laundry rooms.
EFP is providing Plumbing and HVAC design services for this development.

Conveniently located between the MacDonald Bridge and Halifax’s Downtown core, this 7-storey North End development will include 81 residential units, underground parking, and a full suite of amenity spaces.

Novonix Expansion – Bluewater Road
Located in Bedford, Novonix’s Bluewater facility is a hub for battery research and development in Nova Scotia. Collaborating with T.A. Scott Architecture & Design, EFP provided full mechanical design services for the Bluewater facility expansion – a project that doubles the existing building footprint and enables Novonix to increase productivity as the company grows.

Novonix Expansion – 110 Simmonds Drive
EFP Engineering has partnered with T.A. Scott Architecture & Design to support Novonix’s continued growth as a leader in lithium-ion battery technology. Our team provided full mechanical design for this 33,000 ft2 building located in Burnside. This 2-storey, renovated facility contains a wide variety of spaces, each requiring a unique HVAC solution, including labs, offices, and workshop areas.

Located in the rapidly developing community of West Bedford, this 15-storey development will include 290 residential units across two towers and will feature ample amenity space (indoor and outdoor), a gym, multiple meeting rooms, a car wash bay, and two levels of underground parking.

Situated adjacent to Dalhousie University in Halifax’s South End, this multi-unit residential building offers modern amenities and efficient living for students. The building includes 141 residential units, four amenity spaces, ample bike storage and one level of underground parking. This development will also incorporate rooftop solar collectors for domestic hot water heating.

EFP Engineering has partnered with Bird Construction Inc. to assist in the 60,000 square-foot expansion of Neocon International’s existing warehouse.
Located in Burnside, Neocon is planning to expand their existing warehouse which will consist of two floors. The lower level is for expanded manufacturing while the second floor will house the administrative, sales, and management teams. Our team is providing full mechanical design services.
We are utilizing Autodesk Revit and BIM Collaborate Pro for project design and coordination. With the use of this software, this project has provided us with an opportunity to expand our 3D modelling capabilities, a service which is being requested by clients more frequently. The benefits of 3D modelling include enhanced coordination and clash detection/resolution prior to construction.

Located in Kentville, Miner’s Landing is a new multi-building development and latest by Noel Taiani and his team. Once completed, it will include over 200 residential units, amenity spaces, and underground parking. In addition, Miner’s Landing is located directly adjacent to Eaves Hollow Park and the Harvest Moon Trail System.
Our team provided full mechanical design services for buildings B and C, the final two for this development, totaling 110 units.
