UPDATE: Once all the sales and donations in support of the sale were made, a total of $6,000 was donated to Adsum! Thank you!!

We did it! Thanks to your enthusiasm and purchases we have reached our informal 'goal' - in fact, we've exceeded it! While there are still a couple of sales and donations being completed, the most recent total of funds going to Adsum from all of you will be more than $5,700!

In addition to a great big thank you to all of the sale's supporters, I want to send special thanks to some folks who helped execute my impulsive idea (conception to the last transaction within one week 🙂) with the generous donation of their time and talents:
Melissa Falle - a busy mom with her own job who took lots of product shots (only the 'nice' ones - she'd be horrified if you thought she was responsible for some of the 'less professional' ones I took)
Laura Mulrooney - I don't know if I should be thanking Laura or apologizing to a number of you for her badgering you until you actually truly believed you NEEDED a new inkwell set or crystal candy dish, but thank you, Laura. Amidst the busyness of winding down her 30+ year business Julien's Bakery in the next few weeks, she was a huge support.
Concept Measures - Concept Measures takes STUNNING real estate photos and very generously allowed us the rights to use a few of the ones she took of our loved ones' home so you could see some of the items more beautifully presented. Thank you!
Denise MacDonell - Real Estate Agent with Red Door Realty - Denise also provided some photos for the sale page but more importantly, she and her colleague Paul at Red Door Realty showed our loved ones' home, treasures and lives such tremendous care and respect during this whole process. (and entertained my irrational sentimentality and emotional attachment to the house and its contents - I know that a home sale is a business transaction but Denise and Paul honoured every one of our wishes and requests that we made on behalf of our loved ones.)
Many, many thanks to our kids and family friends for helping lug furniture, wrap up fragile pieces for delivery etc. etc. etc.
And again, to all of our friends, Adsum friends, and folks who don't have a connection to either and may simply be providing a loving home to one of the sale's treasures - thank you!

Antique Art Deco Duette Brooch

This unique Duette brooch was designed to double as dress or fur clips but has also been purposed as hair clips in bridal up-dos and more.

This particular piece appears to have been well-worn in the 1930s Halifax social scene as evidenced by its wear - there is one missing rhinestone and one that has been reattached causing slight discolouring.

Otherwise, the brooch is in good condition with all of its mechanisms working.

We have priced the brooch to account for its wear - it’s a stunning piece of costume jewelry history for a bargain.

Happy Spring! I had planned to highlight this lovely Springy combo of place cards and antique Easter chicks but they were snapped up in the night. Spring, and for many, Easter, is the time to celebrate new life. That’s what this sale means to us - new life for these treasures but even more importantly, new lives for dozens of people who will have stable, affordable housing at The Sunflower. Thanks for your part in making that possible!

Today may be the last day of the sale for now but there will be some beautiful things shared this afternoon. Think retro gold-toned necklace & earring sets, vintage costume jewelry and more. There are also a couple of purses that are still available. Hope you have a wonderful first Sunday of Spring- we made it!

Today was our main pick-up and delivery day and it all went so smoothly. (We’ve got a big run to our Fall River/Wellington & south shore supporters tomorrow - don’t worry, we won’t forget you!) We’d love for our collective gift to reach $5,000 so we’re going to upload some more treasures that are looking for good homes over the next couple of days. Good morning and welcome to day three of Rehoming for Housing! What an incredible first couple of days. Thank you to everyone for generously opening your homes to these treasures - and your wallets to help Adsum for Women & Children provide homes for dozens of folks experiencing housing insecurity.

It's been tough to keep up (a GREAT thing!) but last night I went through the page and deleted all sold items to make your scrolling and shopping less cumbersome. I'll clean it up a bit more today and...keep your eyes open, and this page refreshed, for new items - and perhaps a few price reductions on large furniture pieces.

It's been a fabulous first full day of our ReHoming for Housing sale. Thank you to everyone who has made purchases in support of Adsum's Sunflower! Because there are so many treasures posted, it's easy for some to get buried. We thought we'd highlight a couple of particularly special items tonight.

UPDATE: fish poacher is SOLD! Item 110 is a gorgeous Antique Copper Fish Poacher priced at $200. Professional cooks love using copper because it needs only low or moderate heat and cooks faster and better due to its 'uniform conductivity'. (I am not a professional cook so I'm not really sure what it means but it's a lovely piece that is sought after by those 'in the know')

Item 69 features a full Birks 16-piece Louis De France Regency Plate Fish Knife and Fork Set with a bonus Six Small Louis De France Seafood Cocktail Forks. This item is priced at $200. These are in mint condition and the fish knives and forks alone sell on auction/antique sites for approximately $500.

About The Sunflower

In a few short months, up to 60 people (women, mothers & their children and gender-expansive folks) who are currently homeless or experiencing housing insecurity will move into Sunflower Court’s 25 units.

The shortage of affordable housing in Halifax has reached a critical state. Every night, hundreds of our neighbours are sleeping in tents, cars, on couches and in temporary shelters.
The Sunflower will provide housing, safety, dignity and community for Adsum's tenants and families.
