It has been a while since I’ve posted anything on here, and I’d like to begin my return by thanking all of you. The majority of orders I have received over the past year or so have been custom, which have always been my favourite to create. Making new and unique pieces always provides me with the opportunity to expand and play with my wire wrapping skills, which I am so appreciative of.

An orthoceras fossil wrapped in pure copper wire and hung from an 18 inch chain.

Origins:
The orthoceras fossil comes from extinct, straight shelled cephalopods which lived approximately from the Ordovician Period up to the Triassic period, spanning a time of approximately 300 million years. These amazing creatures grew their own shells and could grow up to 14 feet long. Its name is derived from the words “straight horn”, referring to it’s long, conical shell.

Healing Properties:
The orthoceras fossil activates the root chakra, grounding us to the earth with ancient energy. It also aids in the transformation from who we were, who we are, and who we will be. Many choose to meditate with the fossil’s energy, connecting themselves to the knowledge of ancient Earth. Some even believe that carrying the orthoceras fossil daily will increase one’s lifespan.

It is important for one to consider which metals are used in the making of jewelry.
Copper is one of the most commonly used metals in the world, and is used in many other metal allows such as brass and bronze.
Copper is considered the balancing element of spirit and mind, and is known to enhance crystal properties.
Copper can oxidize overtime (this generally takes years but can differ depending on humidity levels and treatment of the metal) due to exposure to oxygen, but this is easy to clean off of the metal. One can cheaply purchase wipes online that will remove the oxidation, or can simply clean this off at home with many different and easy techniques, such as using a toothbrush with soap and water.
Copper allergies are very rare, even at the high rate of which people are exposed to this metal, but do still exist. It is important to consider ones past experience with and reactions to particular metals before purchase.

The process of shaping the stone into arrowheads (or other shapes) is called knapping, and when held to the sun you can often see grooves and lines left in the stone from flaking or chipping it away. These pieces were knapped in BC, Canada.

I’m pretty proud of this piece, it took 5 tries, 2.5 hours for the finished product, and a bit of blood from my fingers.

It’s nowhere near perfect, but perfect comes only with practice, right?
