At Beltone, we believe in the importance of understanding and caring for your hearing health. Your ears are amazing—they're designed to clean themselves! Here's how:

Earwax Production: Your ears produce wax (cerumen) to trap dust, dirt, and other particles.

Natural Movement: Jaw movements from talking and chewing help move earwax out of the ear canal.

Skin Growth: The skin in your ear canal grows outward, pushing old wax toward the outer ear.

Remember, regular cleaning isn’t necessary and using cotton swabs can do more harm than good. If you have any concerns about your hearing or ear health, visit beltone.ca to schedule an appointment today!

Answer: A

Hair cells act as sound and movement detectors. They get their name from the tiny bunches of hair-like structures called stereocilia, which respond to fluid movement in the ear and help monitor both hearing. The outer hair cells amplify the sound that enters the cochlea, while the inner hair cells convert the vibrations of fluid in the cochlea to electrical signals. These signals are then transmitted to the brain. Damage to these tiny cells can lead to hearing loss.

Just as our vision depends on both eyes, our hearing relies on input from both ears to locate sound sources and focus on specific sounds and conversations. Research shows that wearing two hearing aids leads to clearer understanding and better sound quality. While your ears detect noise, it's your brain that processes it into recognizable sound, making it much easier when receiving signals from both ears.

Early detection and intervention are essential to reducing the impact of hearing loss. Visit www.beltone.ca to learn more and find a location near you.

Hearing loss is often preventable, and May, being Better Hearing Month, is the perfect time to raise awareness about the importance of hearing health! Here are some simple tips to safeguard your hearing for a lifetime of sound enjoyment:

· Lower the Volume: Whether it’s music through headphones or the TV, keep the volume at a moderate level to prevent damage to your ears.

· Wear Ear Protection: When engaging in noisy activities like concerts, DIY projects, or even mowing the lawn, always use earplugs or earmuffs to shield your ears from loud sounds.

· Take Listening Breaks: Give your ears regular breaks from noise. If you’re in a loud environment, step outside for a few minutes of quiet time to allow your ears to recover.

· Get Regular Check-ups: Schedule routine hearing screenings with a hearing healthcare professional to monitor your hearing health and address any concerns early on.

· Practice Safe Listening: Be mindful of your surroundings and the noise levels you’re exposed to. Limit exposure to loud sounds whenever possible, and opt for quieter alternatives.

Remember, taking proactive steps to protect your hearing today can preserve your precious sense of sound for tomorrow and beyond! Learn more at beltone.ca.

TRUE
Inside your inner ear is an interesting maze-like formation known as the vestibular system. Information coming from the vestibular system is processed in the brain and then sent to other organs that need this information, such as the eyes and muscles. This allows us to remain balanced and know what position our body is in. In some situations (i.e. on a boat) different sensory organs, such as the eyes, send contradictory messages to the brain. This is what can then cause us to feel unwell, dizzy, or nauseous.

Young children have a narrower ear canal making sounds amplify and seem even louder than they do for adults. The auditory system in kids may also be more susceptible to damage simply due to its immature state of development.

If you're going to a loud place like a fireworks display, movie theater, or sports game, bring a pair of noise-cancelling headphones for your child. Also consider using child-friendly headphones for listening to music and using electronic devices.
