Great site visit yesterday at the SMU Loyola retrofit. Ellis Don is the general contractor installing 6000 square feet of Mitrex Solar Technology BIPV in addition to replacing the strip of windows with solar glass. When it is complete the system will generate close to 100,000 KWH of electricity per year for the university. This project will open the door to many more retrofits in the HRM area which will provide both an aesthetic and energy facelift.

Today I am very proud to make this official. AzSpecd Solutions has reached an agreement with the Augustine family of Natoageneg (Eel Ground) First Nation in my home town of Miramichi, NB to form Gitpo Renew- Indigenous Renewables.
This will be a partnership like no other in that it will be an Indigenous family owned and operated business that will focus on turnkey renewable energy solutions which will train Indigenous contractors in the installation and maintenance of these systems so that they can form their own renewable energy companies and help bring long-term prosperity to their respective First Nations communities.
Since forming AzSpecd Solutions Inc., working closely with First Nations communities has been a goal of mine and, after meeting with several interested groups, Gitpo Renew quickly rose to the top, mostly due to the caliber of the people involved. Chief Roger Augustine is one of the most respected Indigenous leaders in all of Canada and if you do not know his story I strongly suggest you check out the documentary on his life "You Can Call Me Roger"., https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13647264/
Chief Augustine conquered addiction to rise to become the Atlantic First Nations Chief and built Gitpo Spirit Lodge https://gitpo-spirit-lodge.ca/ which offers peer support between different generations from boys to elders . Roger will be the Indigenous advisor for Gitpo Renew and Roger's son, Galen Augustine will be the Gitpo Renew President. The team will be rounded out by Galen's daughter Aiyana who will be the community coordinator to ensure that the work we do in First Nations communities is done respectfully and that we are involving Indigenous workers and contractors whenever possible. We share a belief that this is framework that will help First Nations communities to grow and prosper in a long-term and sustainable way.
AzSpecd will simply operate in a support role, providing the products and the expertise and we have a great technical team with experience in engineering and government relations to help ensure that Gitpo Renew has all the tools needed to be successful.
In the weeks to come you may read more about Gitpo Renew-Indigenous Renewables in the news as we ramp up the operation in anticipation of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Conference and Trade Show at the Halifax Convention Center July 11-13th where we will be exhibiting and meeting with First Nations stakeholders from across Canada.
To the Augustine family, I want you to know that I am both humbled and honored that you have allowed me to be a small part of this exciting venture. The fact that Natoageneg is located on the beautiful Miramichi River makes this even more special.
