Today is the first day of the CMHA Mental Health Week.
We are a women's addiction recovery centre located in Halifax that is unique in the sense that there are no other centre's of this kind for women in Nova Scotia.
We understand the importance of mental health and treatment of these disorders in relation to a recovery program. If we recover loudly from the things that change our quality of life and mental wellbeing, we have the opportunity to break more barriers surrounding womens addiction and mental health issues.
We would love to hear some feedback as to how we can continue to break these barriers in Nova Scotia.
Any suggestions are appreciated by direct message or comment!
Happy May!
We will be posting about mental health a lot this month as it is MAY!
Together, we can break the stigma surrounding women's mental health.
Sundays are a great time to take a moment and reflect on how your previous week has been - and how you would like your upcoming week to be. Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts out and plan for upcoming tasks.
Give yourself time to heal. Take a moment to breathe. Continue transformation!
"The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act is part of the Government’s comprehensive approach to addressing the crisis."
In Canada, we have what is called The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act. This act became law on May 4, 2017.
This act can provide some legal protection to those at the scene of an overdose.
It was created to provide aid to those in emergency overdose situations and to save more lives by reducing the fear of police presence at the scene.
Please take a moment to read up on The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act in Canada by clicking the link below.
https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/opioids/about-good-samaritan-drug-overdose-act.html
"Based on preliminary data, so far in 2022, 14 Nova Scotians died from opioid overdoses."
Naloxone is a drug that has the ability to reverse an opioid overdose.
You can acquire a naloxone kit, for free, from pharmacies all across the province of Nova Scotia.
All you have to do is walk in and ask about getting one. There is a short training session required when picking up a Naloxone kit, so it is a good idea to expect to stay for about fifteen minutes.
You can go to any pharmacy and ask the pharmacist about getting a kit. If they do not have any available on hand, they can direct you to another location that has some.
"Since January 2016, more than 26,494 naloxone kits have been dispensed to Nova Scotians. There have been 207 reported reversals to date."
Harm reduction is important when dealing with addiction.
Please see the NS Naloxone website linked below for more information.

There hasn't been a whole lot of activity within our social media groups lately but as of tomorrow we will be making the best effort to provide daily posts that will range between recovery promotion, harm reduction, women's wellness, etc.
A positive note for this evening:
In recovery, every person's journey is different and should be treated as such.
At The Marguerite Centre, we would rather see you take your time with your recovery rather than to rush it. We are here to work with you, rather than work against the clock.
Rome wasn't built in a day! The same can be said for sobriety :)
