New yarn alert! With nearly 40,000 projects on Ravelry, DROPS Merino Extra Fine is a proven favourite. It’s a GOTS-certified, soft and smooth, machine washable light-medium weight (3/DK)—perfect for kids and babies! All that at a great price. And it’s available in our webstore and online now.
Saying goodbye to these old friends as Foxberry Cottage owner ♥️ Pauline Farrington winds down the business and finally retires. She has very kindly sent us the very last of her Maude Lewis kits. Supply is very limited. Online or in store for as long as they last. 🥹🥹🥹🪡
Spent the afternoon helping this gang get settled in. Why not drop be to give them a squeeze of welcome?🤗 😉

When a customer came in with this washcloth pattern, I knew I had to make it. It’s just one of a bevy of excellent designs by (Amy Marie on ). Mosaic knitting is perfectly suited to washcloths because it lies flat, produces a scrubby texture and holds its shape. It’s great fun to watch the picture emerge as you knit—something about the almost puzzle-like experience that makes it perfect vacation knitting. Two 25g balls of Ricorumi cotton will make a cloth, maybe even two! Now, which of her designs should I do next? Hmmm, maybe canning jars…
Take your needle felting to the next level with these generous, economical and GORGEOUS sampler packs from Fleece Artist. Hey handspinners: these are also great for adding a touch (or a bunch) of colour to your batts and rolags, too!
tl;dr: 1) knit this t-shirt. 2) Always swatch with the garment in mind, not the WIP.
If you are in the mood for an easygoing summer knit, look no further than Hør no 16 (linen no. 16) by : This pattern features clever techniques and beautiful design details that come together to create an eminently wearable, relaxed-yet-refined summer top. I knit this one in BC Garn’s “Lino”—a DK/sport weight—even though the pattern called for a fi*****ng. I made absolutely no adjustments to the pattern, yet my make ended up exactly the correct size.
Witchcraft, you say? Nay, friends! Simply further evidence for the importance of swatching, and then washing your swatch as you will the finished garment. In this case, the meshy fabric of 21 stitches over 4”/10cm, yielded a supple, delightful and right-on-gauge fabric of 24 stitches after washing, with much less change in row gauge. Swipe to see an 4”/10cm square before and after washing and blocking. Always swatch with the garment in mind, not the WIP.

Saturday, April 27th is Local Yarn Store day! Let’s show each other some ♥️!
I love the result I got using Wool Local Aran for Morning Star Mittens. The pattern is excellent, is charted for both dark/light and light/dark options. The yarn is spun in the UK from heritage breed fleeces. I knit this sample at a slightly looser gauge (20 sts), then fulled it down to the recommended 21 for a warmer weatherproof fabric.
Crochet (or knit) undersea creatures to celebrate the 20th birthday of Canada’s amazing marine protected area, The Gully with ! Make a creature and drop it at The Loop or another one of the locations, and be entered to win a $200 gift card to The Loop.
The Gradient Wrap is your reward for making it through winter. Work one short-row section per day and you’ll be wearing it in less than a week! Bouncy dk-weight merino and cashmere dyed in paint-chip-like tonal shades. Long enough to wrap twice, but surprisingly quick to knit, it’s just the thing for those days when you may have worn your spring jacket a BIT too soon 😉🥶🌤️🔥.
Tweed yarns are made by scattering tiny clumps of contrasting fibre into the wool (or other fibre) preparation before it is spun. The twist added in spinning traps these confetti-like bits, which show up as flecks in the finished fabric.
One of the things we love about Jody Long’s “Alba” tweeds is how the nepp colours vary for each shade. This otherwise sober Granite (1002) shade of the Aran is flecked with hot pink and cream nepps, like a subtle wink, or a neon light reflected in a puddle.
We have a lot of work to do today.
Definitely a knitting day.
All corridale colours are back in stock!
If you spend a lot of time around yarn, you begin to apply yarn logic in unexpected places. This year, I thought it made sense to use my niddy noddy to skein up my tree lights for storage. I choke-tied them in a couple of spots, folded the skein on half and cinched it at the waust with a loop of twine (like you would a warp chain). Next year, I suppose I could use the niddy noddy to hold the skein as I put the on the tree!
